Editing to add: Was not trying to derail the thread but that it is nice to see Lisa with V. We use to have more interactions like this in 2nd gen. It's healthier for Kpop as a whole to move forward peacefully (and lowkey musically). P.S they ALL look amazing.
As of now, the only remaining rival of BTS is Adele.
BTS brought its biggest rival in Korea, IU, into submission when IU asked Suga to give a song, although IU immediately rebelled by cutting Suga's lines in a video perf.
And its biggest rival outside of Korea, Ed Sheeran, kind of submitted to BTS ' power when he gave the Permission to Dance song.
With both the biggest threat from home and away now kind of , at least, docile against BTS, it has no rival on world save maybe Adele, whose album date…
BTS' first rival was the now defunct BAP, which was at the same league and considered superior by more people back then. But then BAP's company simply threw the company and BAP to the toilet so they were never heard again.
By end of 2014 they were at the level of BtoB. they became friends, a friendship which appears to have lasted.

By 2016, they became the chief opponent of EXO, in my opinion BTS' greatest adversary.
2016-2018 was the fight between EXO and BTS, with IU jumping into the rivalry when IU's Autumn Morning beating DNA . But generally people saw EXO as BTS' biggest rival.
And 2018, BTS jumped into the world stage. On the week of June 2, 2018, it beat Post Malone to take the first #1 in Billboard 200 chart.
On 2020, BTS beat Cardi B to reach the #1 in Billboard Hot 100, which I think is the height of the act.It became one of the top ranked acts of the world.
By 2021, with Hybe buying the company with Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, J Balvin , etc, BTS' final rival was Adele, and she kind of imploded at the end of that year as well.
At the end of 2021, the following people were ranked as the 9 most awarded singers of the world.

BTS 164 awards
The Weeknd 82
Ed Sheeran 76, Taylor Swift 63, Olivia Rodrigo 59, Justin Bieber(Hybe) 58, Dua Lipa 55, Megan the Stallion 48(most of them won because of her collaboration with BTS) and BTS; domination was so strong that a domesticist, IU, with 46 awards, was ranked in the top 9 artist of the world!
With the nearest rival overpowered 2-1, for all practical purposes, BTS no longer had any rivals. Only the Weeknd, Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa and the Senior Singer IU who saw BTS growing up (and never really feeling it as her rival since she treated the Hybe act as her junior) remained as BTS' rivals, but even if they combined their forces, they had no chance.
Here are a couple of comments from the thread of a rivaless BTS
After all was said and done, the Senior Singer, who saw BTS' beginning and now this, appears to be its final rival. Although it beat her record in Gaon by a wide margin and has no comparison in Spotify, her aggregate record at Melon appears to be immortal, and by outlasting it, she proved to be the ultimate rival of the greatest act of the 21st Century.

If she failed to beat them on Gaon, and failed on Spotify, and she is nowhere to even be found on Billboard, then she ain't no damn rival. At least use someone who is strong in the top 3 music markets in the world with a mention on the IFPI list so not to look like a total nut. Entertain us!

LOL, yeah. I actually have only made 1 prediction here ever though. I base any prediction I have on knowledge of music history & every now and then tarot. I should post more because a few groups outside of BTS actually have some good futures. Not to step on Hardy's toes but BTS & BP will both return (22/23 & 24/25).
Ok so I'm watching this now finally and reading the corrected translations here. In some other threads there were some unsupported interpretations and claims made about things that were never actually said. Some folks apparently can't watch anything without twisting it to fit their agendas.
Yeah I said the same thing. It's wild how people twist stuff then start rumors.
you should stop writing things like "who will now dominate", or "now that BTS ended group promotions", or "HYBE destroyed BTS legacy", or "HYBE will be poor now that BTS won't release new music as a group"
because nothing like that actually happened/will happen, I get it it's cool to speculate but even as girl group fan my only wish would be for my favs to sell as much as BTS and be as popular in Korea as BTS are...
I'm also pretty sure that if BTS for example were releasing two MV's per year, then they dominated charts two times, because they always take instant that #1 on all charts... so now rather than speculating we should all cry because imagine what will happen if BTS members will start dropping that solos month after another... that will be goodnight Irene for others dreaming of #1, and by that I don't mean an Idol from RV

I know some Armys must be really tired but I really wanted to say that.
I just find that really amusing that BTS is talking about a pause and the whole internet is saying BTS is breaking up or about to break up. And I'm not talking about Armys but more about the people whodon't care about BTS and just hope for their disbandment. If BTS hadn't spoken so honestly and openly, we wouldn't even know about their plans and they would have just released solos for now. But instead they are braveenough to play with open cards.
From what has been published on Twitter and the members have said, the members have made it very clear that they will be back as a group one day. And probably stronger and better than ever because now they also have time to find themselves and do some solo projects, which I think is very important. The members have repeatedly emphasized that they just need a break from group activities and this isn't a group disbandment.
I know it doesn't sound great at first when members say they need a break from activities as a group, but basically it's something Blackpink does all the time and other successful group like BigBang did it too. Released some solo stuff and came back as a group stronger than ever. They dominated the whole kpop scene in 2012-2015 this way.
I think it's a great idea to recognize at the right moment that you just want to try something different. Especially musicians often have this wish. Putting your own desires aside is very selfless (I think Taehyung said it? I hope I am right) but not good in the long run.
And come on, it isn't like BTS is over. The member will release some own stuff, will carry on with their show, will do a tattoo together and come back with new ideas and new strength. They only talked about not releasing new music as a group and not seeing each other ever again.
In my opinion this is the best decision a group can make.

Yeah I agree. The dramatics I've seen here, LMOA! And yes Non-fans are MORE dramatic than fans. As a fans of western artist like Kendrick Lamar who took like 5 yrs off reading this site's drama is as foreign as watching animal planet. Anyway, they also talked about coming back to perform RUN BTS in concert during it. And if Suga says, "We are NOT disbanding." then trust it. Damn! LOL!
Reading these comments I swear that I'm the only one that watched the live stream (if you didn't in FULL your opinion means jack shit to me.).
RM and Suga were VERY clear about the FUTURE of Bangtan. No need to twist their words into a pretzel. Any "ARMY BUT.." that watched the whole thing and came here to call them "puppets under slave control" is soulless PERIOD!
Also, imma need Kpop fans to realize BTS is no longer like your favs in that that their statements are not just for the Kpop/Korean audience. They are a GLOBAL group so they are treated accordingly by HYBE, UMG, ALL of western media and Eastern media.
When your fav releases a solo track Variety doesn't care. If your fav has a comeback Hollywood reporter won't write about it. If you're fav is going on hiatus CNN won't be reporting it. With BTS that is not the case.
Meaning statements made are aimed at Western media as well as Eastern media. You trying to comprehend these statements thru a lense based on Kpop company's rinse and repeat formula will always leave you confused because your groups are not as international (some are not at all), so your companies won't speak the same language.
In the west hiatus is default for disbandment. That is how Western media see it. So you bringing up random kpop group X who never even charted on BB hot 100 as an example means the conversation is above you. But then again Hybe/BTS ain't talking to you!
Quiet as its kept I was actually a fan of YG's approach years ago (before 2012). I knew when I saw GD's doc before he went into the military that the genre cannot grow if these artists get too exhausted.
A 2 month vaca (which the western media took as disbandment) after all those years was NOT enough for BTS. Even Hitman Bang said the current kpop formula of comebacks will not work long turn. Let them rest! And ask for the same for your favs.
I am a American fan, and a former 2ne1/BB fan, I can wait. LMAO. I look forward to the solo stuff.
Have you read the lyrics of For Youth, it is a tearjerker?
I haven't yet, I'm actually afraid. But I really need too cuz this song is really, REALLY starting to chip away at my soul without even knowing fully what is being said. I only read the lyrics for YTC & RunBTS so far.
