Lesserafim is a big group, but they would be no where near as successful in Japan without Sakura. She is the most popular idol in Japan, definitely as big or bigger than twice as a whole. She could sell 100k alone in Japan
I’m not from Korea, but I feel like we tend to overestimate how popular lots of these groups are with the general public. In America we have stars that everyone knows, but that doesn’t mean the gp are fans of them… they just have popular music. Like dua lipa, lil nasx, doja have great success with charting/gp but if you ask a random person from the states 9 times out of 10 they could care less.
I agree with most points but the biggest problem with Itzy is they just don't have that IT factor and if you added Somi to the group, it would be glaringly obvious.
I think this comeback is Itzy's last chance but JYPE has already screwed up by releasing so many MVs.. a group like Itzy who have fallen from grace need that ONE song that will hit big with the GP and focus on it. They already tried multiple MVs for KMD era and none of the bsides ended up charting so idk what JYPE is thinking by releasing four more MVs this era
I agree that they should have tried to focus on one music video. But their previous pre-releases weren't put on streaming platforms until the entire album (just Youtube).
It literally is, there songs always rise way higher after they start performing them on music show stages.
The same reason Aespa use to get hate by everyone. Especially with the new girl groups, when they start to gain a lot of success, their fandoms (success stans) start throwing it in everyones face which causes lots of fandoms to root on their downfall even though it isn't the fault of the groups themseleves.
I don't think so. It will be harder for them to break through with upcoming girl groups. However, despite what many believe, they are gaining a ton of loyal fans with each comeback which is arguably more profitable. They just may peak digitally later compared to other groups. However, JYP isn't really focusing on the Korean market lately anyways.
Stamp on it Chorus is way smoother than Step back.
I feel like they were trendy in South Korea. Many of the records, though impressive, were condensed within a couple years. However, as a whole, they continue to gain a bigger fandom and grow outside of Korea.
I've always heard that seventeen was a top 3 boygroup in South Korea though? Boygroups in general, especially recently, don't have the best domestic charting. Groups like Ateez, everglow, and stray kids are the kinds of groups that get slack for being unpopular in Korea. It makes no sense though because they are still extremely successful and are making money regardless. The only thing that may be a downside is longevity after their group disbands because most groups aren't popular enough internationally where members will be able to get sponsorships for international brands or get t.v. shows gigs in the countries where they are popular imo.

Butter did have extremely watered down English. Kiss me more was also a bigger and more impactful song in the United States so it makes sense. Generally, boy groups, in general, have a bit more trouble getting Grammys because I think the judges try to distinguish between fandom popularity and gp popularity. I have no doubt they can win a Grammy in the coming years with a better song.
Maybe it's to help with some of the negative press about their debut.
I think Boa would be more comparable to Britney Spears. Beyonce would shut down the music industry if she released an album. Boa seems to have the relevance of Britney Spears where she is still famous, but past the peak where people are extremely interested in her music (both we manufactured similarly as well).
Gfriend, they even rank higher than Mamamoo in most brand reputation I've seen post disbandment. I wouldn't even say that OMG has longevity over Gfriend if we are talking about peaks (unless they keep heading on the road they are headed).

I didn't even know Billie was from an SM sublabel. It may have to do with the fact that they aren't posted under the main company channel. Enhyphen and fromis-9 seemed to be a little more of an association with BTS company. Add in the fact that Enhyphen had a survival show and fromis-9 had a couple of comebacks before they saw the jump in album sales. Billie is still selling great for rookies.
