Yuqi is already a proven solo success, if only because of her massive popularity in China.
-
I think Idle and Itzy serve as warnings for what can happen if your labels DONT succeed in doing this. Idle is on top of the world as a group, i think they're #1 right now, but the solos for Miyeon, Soyeon, and Yuqi all flopped to varying degrees because both fans and GP just didnt care about them the way they care for the group as a whole. I think Soyeon still has a 2nd chance, her solo released before Idle became massive.
Soyeon's debut album didn't release at the best of time (after the controversy, during the hiatus, before TOMBOY's breakthrough success). I think Miyeon's solo debut did ok, nothing amazing but fine.
However...
Yuqi's solo debut is a huge success (500k+ copies sold), she's already a star in China. And the members individually have a lot of activities: shows, magazine covers, photoshoots, ads... Honestly they're doing great.

People lack unbiased, objective critera to speak on that matter. So I have identified three undisputed categories evaluating groups members' skill and appeal so we can settle things once for all:
1. Songwriting and producing abilities and achievements
2. Popularity/commercial success as a solo artist
3. Interest shown by other companies and artists
Now let's break this down:
1. Obvioulsy Soyeon of (G)I-DLE is the queen of this category. No need to elaborate.
2. Yuqi of (G)I-DLE achieved this year one the most successful solo debuts of all time.
3. Miyeon and Minnie of (G)I-DLE are among the most sought after voices for collaborations, featurings and OSTs.
Well, it appears from an unbiased, objective standpoint that (G)I-DLE is the clear winner and top group of their generation. Wow, I didn't expect that outcome! At least it's settled. Now we can have peace...

...What?
This isn't a matter of opinion. It's simple math.
What's more impressive?
Group A accumulating 3.2 billion streams in 6 years
Group B accumulating 4.5 billion streams in 1.5 years
There is no need to caveat this. IDLE have never been super strong on Spotify.
NewJeans set Guinness records for fastest group to each billion total stream milestone.
I'm not talking about damn 7 years from now. I'm talking TODAY in the reality we live in CURRENTLY. This isn't even disrespecting what IDLE has done, but fight the battles worth fighting. A debate about their relative performance in the West is not what you want to do.
NewJeans put a literal GIRL GROUP (not just K-Pop) record 5 songs on the Hot 100 in a calendar year. They had the #1 album in the country (U.S.). It's not a fair fight.
To be clear, I'm not saying (G)I-DLE should be #1 above anyone else. Maybe right now NewJeans is the undisputed #1. I don't care that much tbh. My argument was more directed towards the several people who ranked (G)I-DLE last. That's the thing that doesn't make much sense to me. Imo they should at least be #4, because IVE don't seem too hot right now if I'm not mistaken.
#4 or possibly higher, but I can't be bothered taking a look at aespa's and LSRF's current status relatively to each and every group.

The six years is literally not a positive for IDLE.
It actually is. Right now there's no way to tell NewJeans won't be an as-good-as-dead group in their 7th year, like most girl groups are.
If every year, a rookie group rises to the top and takes the chart by storm, only to be ovetaken by a newer group the following year, proving they were just a fad; then the older, steadier group is the superior one.

I don't understand people who dismiss (g)i-dle because of Super Lady when Fate made up for it by PAKing out of b-side status, turning into a SOTY contender, which is an even more impressive achievement. Dat shit makes zero sense.
-
Despite having large monthly listeners and followers on spotify, they have not chart on global spotify since queencard. This is kinda odd.
I don't think it's odd. I think gidle stans, unlike other groups' stans, don't play the same couple of songs on repeat over and over. I know I'd rather play the latest album fully three times than the title track alone 20 times.
So I think it's best to approach the stream numbers for groups (or albums) rather than specific songs. Not that I think it would make (g)i-dle #1 all of a sudden. I'm just saying it would paint a more accurate picture than just dismissing the whole thing just because "no spotify global = flops".

4 PAKs in a row, biggest reception in uni festivals. Yet they lack public acceptance? No idea what you're smoking, mate.
Netizens praise (G)I-DLE’s recent Yonsei University performance(G)I-DLE recently performed some of their top songs, including “Super Lady” and “Queencard,” for a festival at Yonsei Univer…www.allkpop.com"All of (G)I-DLE's songs are so popular and perfect for festivals"
"I'm jealous of everyone who went to this concert"
"They really have a lot of hits, I could sing along to all of the choruses"
"I love that the crowd knew all the songs, I wish I could have gone too"
"They have a lot of hits and they're great live"

i think yall are underestimating gidle ngl
Underrated and gidle are the most iconic duo.

unexpected concept

True, ELZUP despawned in the blink of an eye.

I'm glad that BLUSH was only a prerelease single (kinda?). I thought it was really cheap to come back after such a long hiatus with only a single.

1. (G)I-DLE
-
You know, ever since (G)I-DLE came back with TOMBOY, some nevies see Soojin references everywhere. Some plausible, others a little far-fetched. If these people were to be believed, everything (G)I-DLE write or do would be about Soojin, which is kinda ridiculous.
Though sometimes, it's hard to deny. I mean...

Today Soojin performed her new song MONA LISA on Show Champion. It's her first music show appearance since leaving (G)I-DLE if I'm not mistaken, so it's a pretty significant moment.
