The fans feel like zombies in the MV...

The SM idol image doesn't fit with western kpop fans' taste. It has less to do with the music imo.

Huntrix from Kpop Demon Hunters debuted in 2025. They are a 5th gen girlgroup. They are out of the discussion, since my comment was about 4th gen girl groups.
-
Kinda obvious since the song wasn't that well received compared to their previous comebacks. It has been so long since Aespa released a divisive title track since the Girls Era.
Also, from what I have noticed, Dirty Work is still performing marginally better than most 4th gen girl group comebacks in 2025, so it's not like their position as the #1 4th gen girl group has changed.

They were being harsh, but they did not lie.

It's probably Next Level or Savage for me. They are the only two Aespa title tracks that I have been skipping lately.

That Tarzzan guy is way too corny for my taste. They could've replaced him with a male vocalist, but I guess Teddy wanted this group to be more rap-heavy.

Lost his career for manifesting his p*rn fantasy lol

Did he wear the hat as a joke or is he just politically illiterate? I feel like it is either one of them.
Also for comparison, I feel like the political phrase on Jungkook's hat was more obvious than Karina's red no.2 jacket. So the ones who came after Karina for that wearing that jacket but are covering up for Jungkook now, are just blind nasty hypocritical supporters. Such creatures are more dangerous for society than MAGA.

He doesn't know English. There are bts (lol) of him working with vocal coaches learning pronunciations and enunciation. He always has Korean translator with him.
He'd like to know it but he said it's too hard. Same as Suga. They ask RM to teach them phrases. Their ments are always in Korean sans RM ofc.
You can learn and remember lyrics of languages you don't know, that's not unheard of. I know a song in greek even tho i don't speak greek.
Jungkook can read basic english. And the phrase on the hat is made up of basic english words. Fluency in speaking is different from being fluent in reading.

I don't think so, to your last statement. Instead of adjusting the standards down for boy groups, I say we just call it like I've been calling it for the past year: we're in the era of dominant girl groups.
When someone asks me who the stand out groups of 4th generation are, the conversation will start with NewJeans, IVE and aespa for me
nobody is denying that in this generation, girl groups are dominating boy groups, especially in Korea. However, if the question is how we regard popularity among boy groups in Korea, K-charts are a poor metric since all of them aren't doing great there.

If it is frozen, then nope. Otherwise, when it is freshly chopped at a butcher shop, I definitely clean it.
-
When was this era? I never gave a damn about boy group wars because BTS are the kings, but I definitely saw a lot of ugly arguments about BTS being the top group as early as 2017 for sure, and they definitely had hit songs before they blew up in the West, and were a top boy group.
Year end 2024, SKZ didn't finish top 10 on the charts, just among the boy groups.
That's why these two groups' trajectories are much different.
I don't deny both the group's trajectories are different. BTS has been getting RAKs back in 2017 itself, I believe. But so were other boy groups, and that was the reason some didn't consider them as a top group.
But almost every top boy group in 4th gen has underperformed on k-charts, and this is when we need to use other metrics to decide a group's popularity in Korea.

Actually, BTS. I understand the group's popularity until MOTS7, because they had a solid discography until then, but I don't understand how they blew up after that. From a music quality point of view, the BE album has never lived up to the reputation of the Love Yourself and MOTS trilogies. Their latest album was a mix of their previous discography, so it doesn't count. Dynamite, Butter, and PTD were never as good as any of their previous title tracks, and the general kpop fan sentiment doesn't argue this either. I still feel BTS does deserve their popularity, but I feel like they should've blown up way before, somewhere around 2016-17, not in 2020.

That is ABSOLUTELY revisionist history. BTS had HITS even as far back as 2015
Dope happened, fam

They were already becoming household names in Korea by 2016.
Especially after this song

Between 2015 and 2018, some K-pop fans in Korea did not consider BTS to be in the same league as Big Bang and EXO, because they had supposedly never had a national hit like the other two groups. EXO had Growl, and BigBang had multiple national hits by then. I only started getting into kpop in late 2016, so I'm only going by the narrative of K-pop fans back then.
The BTS songs you mentioned were huge hits amongst the international kpop community and did relatively well in Korea, but were not big enough to be national hits. Not to mention, it wasn't uncommon for a boy group to have a national hit back in the 3rd gen, unlike the current generations. This is why BTS's popularity and success in Korea were downplayed until 2018.
SKZ may not have any hits in Korea, but most of the top boy groups of this gen don't have any major hits either. But to the general public, the name "Stray Kids" is just as well-known as the other 4th gen top boy groups, and that is what matters IMO.

Absolutely.
Forget about SKZ; BTS was not considered a top group by some people back in 2016-18 for the same reason. BTS back then and SKZ now have comparatively larger fan bases in Korea compared to their peers. So, of course, they will be considered as the top group of their gen. Determining a boy group's success based on their Korean hits is so 2nd gen.
