the list is nice, but it does leave out some things such as mentioned before like one of Twice's title track. I mean if Ice Cream is there (0 korean promotions and no different from a japanese language release just that it is english one), and some of the songs that didnt do so well for other artist as well like stay for Bp(6weeks only) and Aya(6weeks) then Im sure since this list shld counts comebacks in general for any song whether it charted well or nt shld be taken into account.

2018 and 2019 is a probably tie between Bp and Twice depending on how u see it.

2018 Blackpink had better digitals and charting in both korea and internationally with d4 and fy, but lost out on physicals to Twice.

2019 Blackpink had better digitals and charting only internationally, but Twice didnt do that well in korean digitals/charting either. Both were beaten by ITZY. Blackpink had higher concert revenue in 2019, and Twice has more physicals despite KTL going to outsell either of Twice's album in 2019.

Their ranking is basically tied unless u value one aspect more than the other

D4 is bigger imo because of how many ppl it impacted WW. In Korea Gee is clearly bigger. But if we are looking as a whole D4 is unmatched. It was even used as a commercial in SEA for shoppee which went super viral and now everyone knows the song. SEA alone has way bigger population than Korea

If u wanted to compare which is bigger Korea, shld have compared Gee and Cheer Up. But being the biggest in Korea doesnt mean it is the biggest in general, just like how TT is bigger than cheer up for twice becos it was big in both Japan and Korea so it impacted more ppl. Just like how big Rollin is in korea now but outside of Korea nobody knows much abt the song

Korean digitals does not cost alot at all. 50 songs for 18 USD on melon. Its basically Chinese downloads price. And the thing is the amt of downloads in Korea is nowhere near Chinese ones.

Artists cannot possibly earn much from downloads in korea

Edit: 18 is + streaming pass, 12 USD is the actual price for 50 songs download. Its actually cheaper downloads than chinese downloads. The streaming pass alone is 9 USD per month for those just buying the streaming pass. I dont think its possible that artist earn more from downloads than streaming in korea

They really dont need the US market. Big companies like JYP and SM try all the time to break into the US market with their grps. But its just an added bonus.

With the decline of kpop groups' popularity in the past 2 years this was made even more obvious. Kpop is becoming a niche with an exception of a few grps even in their own home country. And that is why in the future international popularity would be the target for kpop groups

Ice cream did well in SK. Its basically like an original Japanese songs from kpop acts. It was not promoted in korea, and the locals dont understand the song. And it still managed to reach top 10 unlike all the other Japanese songs by kpop grps. And nobody expects japanese songs to do well in the first place.

If anything was disappointing it would be its longetivity in anywhr else other than the US. B4 the song came out we might have expected btr.

Blackpink's move should be at least a mini album in June or July. To keep the momentum going and continue displaying their new strength in physicals

Blackpink bc ppl didnt think their international success is that impressive and Bp's korean achievements always been belittled for no reason for a grp that has been releasing hits,mostly big ones every year in korea since debut and the only gg in this gen that can be considered a rival to them in korean charts is Twice.

We've even had ppl in akp asking if Bp was even a top 5 gg in korea last year b4 HYLT came out. 2020 for sure did make alot of ppl wake up and we'll see if they are still belittled or nt

Damn i thought they were only first 3rd gen gg to hold concert at KSPO dome in korea and 2nd for dome in Japan. Guess it was dome tour not a dome concert that Twice was first to do.

Blackpink's touring power is no joke even back in 2018 when their fandom is not as big as it is now and if not because of COVID, they might be competing with SNSD for the all time touring records.

This generation's gg has in general, weaker touring power tho, only Twice and Bp have some kind of touring power

I think HYLT and LSG might end up ard 4.5M ULs. If it was pre chart reform they would have been at least PWF level both at 5M+

Not really. Or they all will make it to the most sold albums each year with the population in China. Kpop acts have fans that are more inclined to buy physical albums that's why grps like EXO and Bp can sell so much physicals there when they have bigger fandom there.

The difference is that Chinese Gp don't really stream, some of them still just download songs they like. Hence the downloads. That kind of mentality is exclusive to China
