Not to kill your vibe here but wanted to point out EXO actually is the second most successful Korean BG in history behind BTS in sales and in the west and if you look at the stats they are only like 2 mil in sales per album behind BTS. Not to mention most of EXO has already done their military service. No EXO-Ls have tried to protest it.
BTS didn't get order of cultural merit because their sales. It was because their cultural and economic impact to the country. So certainly no idol group in the history has ever came close to bts' impact on 2018 to their nation enough to win that award.

It's not about album sales or topping charts. It's about cultural and economic impact. More accurately, their contribution to the tourism and they bring 4.7B to the economy.
Achievements of each awardees are different. Eg: psy got this award after the international success of gangnam style.
BTS got this after two No.1 albums. So it was never about chart success but impact of promoting their culture around the world and economy.

If it’s near impossible for any other group to meet those requirements, apart from BTS, then shouldn’t they just scrap the law and make a special consideration for BTS only?
No point going through all that trouble and time if you’re only going to make a law that only applies to one group.
(FYI I don’t care if it effects my faves or not. I can deal with grown men going away for 2 years, I have my own life to deal with)
Actually if other groups in the future gets the order of cultural merit before 30, they would be eligible too. Currently BTS is the only group that is eligible but it's not just for them. BTS achieved cultural merit when they were just 5 year in the industry so it's not impossible.

None of this happened. No kpop company used BTS as a shield. A politician started this whole wave using BTS name, then the government invited kpop companies to discuss the matter. That IS what happened.
Then why didn't govt invite bighit?

In a democratic country everyone should be equal before law, just because bts are very popular and successful that doesn't means they should get special privileges.
There have been many legendary kpop boy groups before like Bigbang, TVXQ, G.O.D, H.O.T ... but none of them tried to run away from their military service like bts and bighit are doing
None of these legendary groups have order of cultural merit award

That's what I understood too, which means the title of the thread is misleading, same for the posts calling this petty and "a new low for the kpop industry".
KMCA isn't objecting to BTS getting postponement, they're objecting to the requirements which will make it near impossible for anyone else to get postponement too. This is not an attack on BTS lol, some posters here should put the pitchforks away and calm down.
I'm actually curious about KMCA's suggestions on what the criteria should be?
Even if they only want to eliminate the 15 yr restriction, could it be really useful? Not a single 15+ year idol group got this cultural merit award. BTS is the only idol group in history to ever won this.

Yeah, I understand you, I don't care about anything else beside BTS and I don't have any notifications on but I still have to go through dozens of not-wanted vids when I scroll through my subscriptions to see what's new. It's not helping that new aesthetics of bighit as hybe are ugly af tbh.. Tbh really thinking of unsubscribing.
If you can't be updated on twitter then maybe download weverse? I think they update about releases and MV's there too. I think vlive does it as well

I'm sure its BTS' decision. They even have say in promo strategies. Rapline have released 5 mixtapes and each one of them had different type promos. Jk was saying he want to make 3 MVs for main tracks.
BTS is different from other kpop groups. They have solo songs on BTS' albums. Recently Nick Jonas have said this is what they admire about BTS.
Army would definitely support their solo careers too but solo careers put more pressure to the members due to BTS' tight schedule.
I hope they would at least put their SoundCloud discography on Spotify
