A lot of this will be down to distribution. I don't think any group will be as high in terms of position as BP but as we saw with the US with everyone now entering Billboard, distribution is the key. As no-one really buys physicals in any countries anymore so the level to entry isn't high.

JYPE are definitely the least equipped for the global game whereas Hybe/YG/SM are at a different level in terms of means. Stray Kids are the only group in JYPE that get good push outside of the US when it comes to the west.

Must be the biggest debut after BTS/BP related releases then as I think Maniac had that record before

Initial ULs definitely did take a drop between Jul '20 - Aug '21 when the 24Hits chart was the main chart (now I feel like it's a combination of the chart though slightly easier than 24Hits and volume of users) so I do think it's the biggest reason for the size of the gap between HYLT and LSG.

But also a pre-release does naturally impact the anticipation of the lead single especially after long breaks which BP does regularly and definitely plays a part in reduction of initial ULs. Celebrity vs Lilac was something similar though not as pronounced as it came out during the same chart system.

New Jeans are going to consistently get their b-sides going high as well in the immediate future so depending on how many songs they have in their release (next month?) they could really sew up some Dasesangs over the next 2/3 months.

NCT Dream are also doing well but I don't really think it will do anything for the group in the longer run digitally. Alongside Gee it's SM's most iconic kpop song in SK so the song itself is just much bigger than them as a group and is doing the heavy lifting through legacy alone.

I don't get the highest for a GG this decade caveat. It's more impressive to say it's the highest since the chart change for a girl group as that was a big change in 2020.

I'm pretty sure it's not even correct that it's the second highest debut this decade after HYLT for a GG, More and More had its debut at 539k ULs on Melon daily.

His game plan from the start of the match basically gave them no chance.

Instead of trying to keep it tight to start the game his players were erratic and jumping into tackles all over the place playing into Brazil's hands. That first goal for Brazil had so many South Korean players jumping into tackles and missing, taking them out the game.

Honestly can't recall the last time I've seen so many players in a game get floored by dummies.

It's a shame because they were well drilled for most of the tournament but the stage got the better of them.

The main thing that makes we wary about concluding something like this based on raw spotify numbers is we don't really get any visibility over playlisting (or the information is behind a paywall).

With YouTube you can see the impact of spend on ads through the YouTube charts, with Spotify we rarely ever seem to know the playlisting side of things unless they're on the biggest one (TTH) and that can also be paid for.

Harder to contextualise the data. I remember reading a while back that Love Dive for example had really strong playlisting for a kpop group that's not BTS/BP but unless you pay it seems you can't really corroborate it.

Itzy like Twice have a very prominent brand

Ityz are a high energy/dance break intensive group, their new song is not that.

The public seem more open to variety from a group when they can showcase talent and JYPE are the worst at that. Itzy like Twice are just not taken seriously as musical acts, they are as kpop as you can get in how they are perceived. It's why both groups have such bad b-side performance in SK compared to their peers as well.

They tune to the groups for a certain type of song, visuals and choreo which you get for title tracks but that's pretty much it.

We'll see what they do next because JYPE definitely do care about the Korean market/perception there and currently all their artists are not doing that well there. Their biggest act in South Korea is Junho as an actor in recent times.

Even JYP couldn't break the top 100 on Melon despite all the promo, pretty sure it's the first time I've ever seen him miss out on even getting to the top 100. With his ego there's no way that's being missed whilst all the other labels lap up hits and Daesangs.

It also really feels like the flurry of BTS activity has bought their fans back. Seeing the charts at 8am SK time on a Saturday morning, it has been a while since I've seen a surge of pretty much ever BTS affiliated song. It has been trot central at that time for months now on weekends.

If you actually want to contextualise the data, it's because BP didn't release any music between Sep '20 and Aug '22 and had an odd roll-out of their album price wise.

The Feels was Twice's most streamed song of 2022 which was released in Q4 2021, which was followed by a full album.

Labels most likely negotiate a set amount of time and JYPE would rather give it to their artists that bring in more money and engagement (putting it bluntly). The award shows can be a big piece of promotion.
