From my perspective, I would only consider myself American as well. Sure, if you trace my family back long enough we were Dutch, but my family has been in the US for over 200 years now.
So all we've ever know for generations is America and American culture.
What does that make me?
Well Dutch are white so noone will see you as anything other than American.
Asian-Americans will always be seen as something foreign even if their families had been here for generations.
If Jessica and Krystal were treated like ethnic Dutch or any other white ethnic Americans they wouldn't have ended in Korea and then China to persue their careers. KPOP (like Chinese cinema) had been an avenue for many Asian-Americans in performing arts because getting into those fields in the US is nearly impossible.
Jessica and Krystal grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area with a large and historic Chinese-American population and they started careers in China after SNSD. They trained at SM in a different era when China was considered a natural market (and home) for ethnic Koreans.
They don't have the same prejudice against Chinese as South Koreans, especially the current generation
Wow the MV is beautiful it looks like top quality anime.
Also I love how they recreated her outfits and looks from Chuang. Great job
The production quality is not too bad. I really liked her and the Chuang 2020 part gave me goosebumps.
I wish they would allow survival shows again. Watching that MV made me think about how many young people they gave hope and inspiration to in following a dream.

Yeah, I'm not sure why that is. You'd think that if kpop was a big enough draw to snag some of China's best looking people they could snag some of their best singers as well. I guess Ningning is an exception.
Well language could be a large part of it.
Funny thing is the Chuang series of Chinese Produce shows that Xiaoting was a part of produced two vocal groups full of power vocals. Both Rocket Girls 101 and Bon Bon Girls 303 had a majority of members who were main or lead vocals.
Even with majority vocals, their visuals match any in KPOP imho.
But if you look at their survival show trainees and not just the debutting groups, the visuals are simply at another level. The Chinese idols in KPOP might be pretty but I think they'll be lost in a crowd in the Chinese shows.
There is a reason why Xiaoting finished 80th on Chuang 2020. The visuals there were simply overwhelming. Nearly all of them never made it to Korea. Xiaoting just so happened to end up on GP999.

I thought there was such amazing amounts of visuals everywhere especially during those unrehearsed moments where the makeup was not fully done that you're always thinking "how she would have done in KPOP" for practically all of them:

Yes especially those from North Vietnam and Southern China.
I'm Viet Hoa -- Chinese Vietnamese. My mother's family were from Hanoi and my father were from Cholon in Saigon now HCM City. You cannot really tell the differences between those who are Hoa (has Chinese blood) and those who are Kinh (pure Vietnamese.) In SEA, people can tell by fairer skin color who is ethnic Chinese. You can't tell in Vietnam.
1. She is Chinese which is a big issue with the current political climate in Korea (contrary to more relaxed time when Kyulkyung was the visual center in PD101 or Yiren in PD48),
2. She is considered "chubby" during debut which is a major no no in KPOP though many fans (including Koreans) actually have her as their bias because of this,
3. She is the vocal. Vocals are supposed to be the visual holes because it is the one position you cannot force looks over talent. Though there had always been some beautiful and top rated vocals like Tayeon this perception persists.
Very it could mean the last time Yiren is in Korea. With the Covid protocols, it won't be easy to get back in and with the recent controversy, it might not be worth it to Yiren, EG or Yuehua.
Yuehua just debuted a BG that seems like it would be without any Chinese members. It is a direction that YH is going in Korea. So they might even be testing to see if EG can do better with all Korean members. EG has plateaued so shaking it up might be a final step to see if there is any more growth before disbandment.
6. They are breaking records with their first day saleㅎㄷㄷㄷ
7. I watched this program and even though the producer's intentions at first sucked, in the end, they only had 1 Chinese member who first of all, never posted anything problematic on her Weibo so she had quite a lot of fans sticking to herㅇㅇ They have a lot of Korean members and also only have 2 Japanese members and one of them is totally good in Korean..
8. They sold a lot
10. Wow looks like they have a big fandom overseas. The difference with their Korean popularity is...

So having a truly international group is bad intentions but it is okay now that there is only one Chinese and two Japanese girls and "a lot of Korean members."
Well, the Koreans got what they wanted but it is still mainly overseas support.
Oh really? Do you know who the second revealed member is? I was trying to look around for info on him, but I can't find any. Maybe if you could like me to the source.
Yeah maybe. We'll have to see. Hanbin is already giving them a lot pre-debut hype since he has a fanbase... will be interesting to see how they'll do.
“@naraphantom_ @huwungbin A Korean acc post that there's a guy with the name Koo Bonhyuk that passed a Yuehua audition and its our #7 member from Tempest”
