I think he's a good actor who is unfortunately more remembered for the bad films he's been in than the good. I liked him in National Treasure, Gone in 60 Seconds, Kick Ass, The Croods... he's been in more than 100 films, bound to be some winners and losers in that many films.
And tbh, even though more selective actors tend to get praised for their ~high bar~ they require, that doesn't necessarily insulate them from being in bad movies too.
