Would you change your last name after marriage?

Depends if my last name is lame

What are acceptable options?

Like if I was a women and my last name was Smith or Jones or something like that I'd switch
also from a practical standpoint it might be convenient????
If it's the matter of convenience he can switch his
my last name is cool

idrc, but most people have a hard time pronouncing my current last name so if my partner's last night is more convenient then why not?
His last night? Are u gonna kill him.

To me, it's the opposite. It's seems odd not to do it. Where I'm from, everyone does it and it's just like some sort of unspoken rule that you're expected to. That being said, I do like my last name, so I'd be slightly sad about it, but if my future husband has a good last name, I'd be more okay with it. Then again, my own post sounds too nitpicky to me, so I don't know. I also learned something new today: I didn't know people kept their last name. I knew some people got it hyphenated if they were married, got divorced and remarried, but that's different. Have a great day/night!

im sure a lot of us are having this problem

I'm not attached to my last name because it's my dad's name and he's non-existent in my life.

Another example is if you are going to marry someone of a different ethnicity.
Like if you are Vietnamese with the last name Nguyen and you change it to Jackson it's just odd to me.
Good point
now that cross cultural marriages are more common it could be a problem.
My friend is half black, half Chinese
People go all weird on her for her Chinese last name
-
well in Chinese culture the woman always and I mean always keeps her own last name regardless of marriage or whatever

I'm American, so I was mainly talking about women in the US

I think it might be an anglosphere thing...

no ofc not. only i deserve that.

Case example. For this month, I'm at a hospital and one of the pharmacists is named Khanh Smith which immediately caught my attention since Khanh is usually a male Vietnamese name, so I guessed that they might be mixed until I met her. And she didn't look mixed.
Therefore she must have changed her last name to her husband's and of course it's the most common American last name. So it's just weird. I like to have a last name that identifies my ethnicity.

Park Lulu
be cultured lmao
that raises an interesting point
if one were to marry a person from a country where they put surnames first like China or Korea but one is not themselves of that culture or race...would one still put the surname first?
like assuming a western woman married a chinese man would she go by (for example) Sophie Li or Li Sophie

Hope they have a place in hell saved for them 2x (9).png

Oh that's for damned sure. According to South Park the only ones who made it to heaven were the Mormons.

Yeah
changing last name is becoming more hassle than convenient
-
Overall, we need to normalize switching last names to either person in the marriage that is more unique so we can drown out the Smiths, Browns, Johnsons, Jones, etc. of the world
