no. it is because of the chart reforms. the burning sun scandal has no reason to affect the idols not involved in it. the only ones who got the short end were YG's artists since many koreans said they'll be boycotting the whole company but they did pretty good regardless, especially blackpink. it's a poorly made-up excuse
Did burning sun scandal actually imapct idol group charting for the worse?

I think the produce scandal and the scandal of idols misbehaving or the plenty of bully rumors did more (in a negative sense)

The summer of 2019 was the lowest point of idol groups i've analyzed, no hits from May until November when HIP (Nov 2019) and Psycho (Dec 2019) came out at the end of the year and carried over into 2020.
(Feb 2020) BTS' entire MOTS: 7 album did amazing, ON included.
(Apr 2020) Oh My Girl released Nonstop, then Dolphin went crazy viral.
(Jul 2020) BLACKPINK smashed with How you like that.
(Aug 2020) Dynamite is a damn wall.
(Oct 2020) Savage Love Remix and Lovesick Girls were slow burners.
(Feb 2021) Rollin' goes viral.
(May 2021) Next Level is another slow burner with crazy longevity.
Butter is next to be certified.
We really can't say the whole time groups did get hits in 2019 was because of this still. 2020 was also a bad year except for bts, bp and omg.
2021 was much better i feel

2019 is easily the weakest year for idol groups, only 5 songs were certified. 2021 feels like a definite step in the right direction.
