It's probably not just aesthetic since it's on the back teeth. It's very likely that he needed crowns anyway. I mean he may have chosen gold for the aesthetic, but metal crowns involve less tooth loss.

I don't know much about teeth and various implants etc....

So instead of metal ones, He went for Gold ones?

Basically yeah. Silver/Gold are the cheapest crowns, but iirc they're also the strongest and are most similar to normal teeth in how they wear down. They don't have to grind down as much tooth for metal either.

Most people go for porcelain (or even porcelain over metal) because they look more natural, but I know a lot of people who have gotten gold because it's cheaper (and also because most dental insurance here only pays half of most procedures iirc.)

When I was a kid I got in an accident and knocked some off my baby teeth out so I had silver caps for a while until adult teeth came in. They don't really taste different, but they do have a different texture so sometimes when you rub it with your tongue you're like .

I only just found out about this like last year as well

But yea replying to that one comment that said he did it for aesthetic reasons, quarkie made a really good response on how it’s probably a tooth that needed to be crowned in the first place because it either had a huge cavity, was brittle/weak, had a root canal done so it needed to have a crown placed on top to protect it. But it is possible he did it for aesthetic reasons (though I think people who get gold teeth would put it in the front?) to show off like the rapping culture.

But yea gold is a really strong metal that is good for crowns
