The line between Japanese and Korean male idols is getting thin - What do you think?

  • Your opinion? 8

    1. I totally love that new sound and don't mind that JPop and KPop sound almost the same now (1) 13%
    2. It's good, but a bit too close to KPop for my liking. Oldschool JPop was better (2) 25%
    3. I don't like it. I only preffer the oldschool JPop (1) 13%
    4. What curently is happening to JPop is bad since it is to close to KPop for my liking so I only will stick to KPop (0) 0%
    5. I never got why someone could even like JPop in the first place, so I stick to KPop only and give a damn about other Asian music (0) 0%
    6. It's terrible. I never really was into JPop since I preffer KPop way more but the bit JPop I liked in the past was better than what is happening now (0) 0%
    7. I give a big damn fuck since I am just a casual listener of both genre and pick the songs that I like the most no mather how they sound like (1) 13%
    8. I could care less about music that I don't even enjoy. I am only here for 1 or 2 artists that I stan and never wold give a damn to someone else (2) 25%
    9. I am totally up for it. I might like to get into JPop more now since the style is changing and sounds a bit more like KPop now (0) 0%
    10. Both genre sound too western for my liking so I may or may not pick just a few songs that I could actually listen to (0) 0%
    11. I allready stanned both genre so seeing them grow into a similiar direction is kinda cool (1) 13%
    12. I don't know. I'm quit new to KPop and I'm not really into JPop at the moment so I have no much idea what to think of the style changes right now (0) 0%

Mainly many of the new male JPop artists are having a different style compared to mostly older groups and it also makes it almost hard to distinguish them from Korean groups when you don't know how Japanese compared to Korean sounds like, so I thought to attach a poll and ask you for your own opinions

I give some examples for those who don't listen to JPop (or not enough newer artists)

What do you think about the fact that these artists are sounding more and more alike and it makes it harder for new fans to figure out to wich country they belong to? Also what is your own opinion on these style changes?

  • Half of the examples you put above are already groups created by Kpop companies anyway, so it's only natural that they sound like Kpop. Johnnys groups still look pretty Jpop-like and I'm pretty happy with that.

  • created by Kpop companies anyway

    Nope

Churros Entertainment is a Japanese company

Universal Music Japan is a Japanese company

Voyz Entertainment is a Japanese company

Stardust Records is a Japanese company

Dream Passport is a Japanese company

Lapone Entertainment is 50% owned by Yoshimoto Kogyo wich is a Japanese agency

    EBiDAN is a Japanese agency

    Avex is a Japanese company

    Amuse is a Japanese agency

So you try to tell me what?

  • Honestly if it sounds great, I dig it.

I don't mind that genres are converging I just care if they can make songs that slap ( and they already do that so imma happy camper lol)

I get that people might not like the converging genres but keep in mind that there are always more genres. you just have to find them.

  • Im no expert on boygroups, jpop or kpop, but isnt part of the reason that they sound kinda different from older groups mostly because the typical sound one associates with jpop bg's is because the biggest groups are like 20 years old, and its not until now that newer groups are starting to seemingly take over in jpop?

Im sure theres influences from kpop specifically, but i kinda feels its natural that a newer more modern sound/style is coming with the newer generations as well.

I still think theres a marked difference between them but that might just be the language making it so for me, i dont speak either language but i can hear the difference immediately between japanese and korean.

  • Half of these groups like INI and JO1 are created by Kpop companies and are working on joint projects with Japanese companies. Don't tell me they're pure Jpop groups because they're not. Just Kpop groups that sing in Japanese, that's all.
