Where did the idea that Girls On Top was gonna debut with a female empowerment song come from?

  • what makes me laugh is how much super popular western pop (or even not only pop) songs are waay worse and people say nothing while comparing to kpop at the same time (more times than not putting kpop as "inferior")

ah at those times I wonder if anyone see the irony on this...

Literally this. We got songs like WAP and raps calling women as sex Bxtches all the time etc. but suddenly a song about women warning another women to stay away is deem problematic?

Not to mentioned SM never branded the group as feminist icons y'all wanted to be bc their not American who seems so obsessed of being woke all the time. The lyrics could have been better, sure but they never promised anything from the get go

So who exactly to blame? Definitely not SM.

  • Yes, not to mention that many songs I like from rappers or pop artists maybe rock too etc have tons of lyrics which I don't agree (sometimes find them even upsetting?) much less find them a "good message" or wtv nonsense discourse people say but sometimes actually more times than this, songs are just supposed to be enjoyed, if someone in particular have a problem with the lyrics and can't get past the lyrics...

Simply do not listen to it!?

I don't agree with all this buzz because it makes NO SENSE

tons of rap songs glorify drug use, over sexualization to a disgusting level, murder etc

I still listen to them i just don't think about the lyrics all the time while I listen to them

tons of pop have this "get away from my man" "I am better than you" lyrics to even a way bigger extent and everyone think it's great

now kpop makes such a tame and no meaning song and people start going crazy? I rlly expect that at least it's not the same that praise western pop nonsense while putting kpop down because that would be extremely tone deaf

  • I just to leave this that irrelevant Kpoop opinions online aren't the reflection of majority and of the real world

    Koria doesn't care

  • Why are u so mad the message they convey when sideways and people point it out

The first thing in people minds when their teaser pic drop was boa song which sm made and that song was about being true to oneself, not the lyrics step back has

Also charting was might to be good bc of aespa and ty but the lyrics are still corny considering they got 30 year olds with more than 10 year in the business signing it

LOL so me explaining things like everyone else here =/ = being mad, okay sure

•So who again exactly to blame? The company who tweeted what kind of direction this song is going to have before or the people who make a complete fool out of themselves by assuming?

•Using corny lyrics isn't a drag as what you think it is when Kpoop as whole is known for it regardless what age is singing it. Try again

  • Hell, this isn't even the first "back off, he's mine" song, but because BoA (for some reason...) it's ~misogynistic~?

Or even the flip side, "you make me want to cheat" type songs is arguably more misogynistic since it's directly blaming the girl for the guy's actions, but I can think of some VERY popular songs with that exact message that no one brought this level of disgust for.

  • Not sure why some users are chalking the criticisms up to just 'haters' when the majority of the disappointment on this forum was expressed by those actually really hyped for GOT (and even stans of the groups involved). When everyone has only the best things to say about the vocals and performance just not the song then it really isn't the personal attack against your faves you think it is.

  • The hate against SM GGs is so strong that people

will hold on literally anything to justify their hate

It's many SM stans who are disappointed with the lyrics too

I'm a fan of SNSD, RV, Shinee and Suju and I still find the song terrible even though I was very excited for this release

But I also think it's blown out of proportions, yup the lyrics is cringey but it's not something really problematic

    For real tho.

I'm honesty baffled with some users here. They probably expected this group to like sing God is A Woman just bc of their group's name when SM never mentioned anything about feminism at all

People forgetting this is still Kpoop 💀

  • I feel like people should be mad at SM for hiring someone who once called female idols pussy-dols and not get mad at the group for doing their job tbh. Misogyny goes overlooked once again

Just look at the responses above. Blaming BOA cause apparently she's a 30 year old woman and has been in the industry so she shouldn't be singing about this stuff like.... 💀

And that guy isn't even involve on writing this song

  • Ah yes. A whole generation is waiting for social messaging and identity through top-down designed, hyper-controlled, highly manufactured, corporate sludge. For how much the kpop fandom leans left and pretends to be above "them stupid locals", and spewing "rap is bad cause sex and drugs", "rock is bad cause sex and drugs and old white people music" and so on, the irony is highly entertaining.

  • Wow I guess I must have gotten the wrong information, would it be too much to ask what the problem is exactly and why people are blaming the idols and not the company? I'm confused because I thought that was the core of the problem (the lyrics) not Boa?

Bc they were under the impression, this group is going to be another feminist icons who'll sing about how God is a Woman so when the expectations didn't met.

They also starts to blame and drag this idols for doing this project.

  • From what I gathered people assumed it would be because of the name of the group. When did people care this much about lyrics though?? It's kpop, most of us aren't here for the lyrics

thank you. i literally stan aespa and boa and was really excited for the song up until i saw the lyrics. i wasn't even fully expecting a feminist anthem (although i don't think it's ridiculous if anyone did....the description of the song, combined with the group being named after girls on top which IS a female empowerment song could give that vibe), but i damn sure wasn't expecting a pick-me anthem. not sure how anyone is taking this as a personal attack when there's been almost nothing but praise for the vocals and performance.
