To be honest, i would not have bother looking up step back lyrics if i didnt see people complain about it lol.
I think it would of been the same for majority of people unless you are a fan of one of the girls

The thing is that the concept of this unit was supposed to have an empowering concept (girls on top)so it's obvious people were expecting something else and instead they got "step back stilly girl". I don't know but I wasn't expecting strong women like Boa, Taeyeon, Wendy etc be singing these kind of lyrics. Not only I find the lyrics cringy, but I find these kind of lyrics kind of juvenile too.
Someone was bringing up Somi's XOXO but isn't somi 20? at least she is involved in the lyrics and she is probably telling a story that relates to her. Pretty sure if aespa, itzy, ive were the only ones singing something similar to step back people wouldn't have that much of an issue imo.
Display Morewell i don't understand why considering that the song doesn't adress to all the women if it was the case i would agree with you
but it's adressed to a certain type of women
and a song can still empower women by adressing to certain women and not all women, no ?
i'm not a girl so i don't know, but personnally i find that there's still a "empowering" message behind it
because i know a lot of girls had to face this type of situation and had to watch quietly on the side girls flirting with their men without standing up by fear of being categorize as an overly jealous girls, or a crazy girls who imagine something who isn't true or people telling them that if they think this is because they lack of confidence in themselves
so i find that the song is still empowering some women by telling them that if it's happening to them they shouldn't be afraid to confront the girl and stand up for what they want, no ?
The main issue I have is the implied need to keep an untrustworthy man in a woman's life and making the burden of keeping together the relationship on the woman. Why is it her duty to stop her man from straying? Why does she need a man next to her?
It's not empowering if you're tethered to a man and must tear down other women to keep your status.
The type of woman it is describing is the deeply insecure about their relationship type. Those that are in a secure and healthy relationship would communicate to their partner first about their concerns. Instead of addressing that obvious route, it shows that the woman is worried that her man will confirm their fears by leaving her for the assumed threats to the relationship. People in secure relationships don't feel the need to tear down others bc they wouldn't need to.
Think of the American 60's housewife that goes behind the back of the husband to destroy the lives of the husband's mistresses or perceived mistresses. Would you say they are strong women? No, even they know they are vulnerable because their only form of support is through their husband. Hence they are desperate to keep the relationship alive so they survive.
The lyrics are pretty different. XOXO is about a relationship that already ended and she's being salty lol
GOT is about a woman that is threatened by other women around an existing relationship.
Ig they are both insecure characters to a degree. However, XOXO is about someone that is working on themself more and pissed about the outcome of the past relationship. XOXO isn't about someone that is fighting to take back a lost cause. In GOT, if the man is a lost cause to the perceived threats, why fight for him?

i won't get into it but the lyrics imply he's not that interested and GOT is just annoyed at what this girl is trying.
do both have somewhat problematic lyrics? yes
are both good songs imo? also yes
btw apparently the lyrics seem more problematic than we think
I've only just heard the song and I heard silly girl. I thought did I hear that right? I must admit I was bit taken aback by the lyrics but to be honest it's not my style of song.
hmmm I really never pay much attention to lyrics specially from more "noise" (idk if its noise indeed I am just trying to paint a picture here lol) music?
idk it just seems like it was focused on dancing that was the impression I got I think lyrics was hardly the 1 thing in mind...
for me it's just a non issue as someone said it's like XOXO by Somi the lyrics are there? Sometimes I just enjoy the music it's this case here too I am not much into reading all the lyrics you know so I just vibe with the song
and I listen to a lot of western pop and the lyrics are just like that or worse idk
I don't think this lyrics are worth of overthinking in my opinion of course if people dislike it or like it, it's alright for me it's neutral because I am so used to this I feel like the lyrics barely exist sometimes because its pop and all that
there are meaningful songs in pop there are songs with no lyrics at all and there are weird lyrics
btw apparently the lyrics seem more problematic than we think
