Why "Step back" lyrics is doing such a bad buzz ?? '-'

  • Like they are just telling to a girl to not touch to their man

and i heard a lot of people saying that this song is bad in term of lyrics for calling the girl silly girl

and i'm so surprise that so many ifans seems shocked by the lyrics

considering the amount of lyrics in western music make by female western artist about girls trying to flirt with their man

and using worst word to describe them than "silly girl" like bitch etc....

So i'm really surprise that ifans are doing such a buzz for the lyrics considering that it's a typical western pop song lyrics '-'

and calling the song not female empowering, but the description never describe the song as a women empowering song but describe it as a song about a girl with high self esteem in love with her lover

and i think the lyrics express this considering the song i about a girl talking to another girl telling her that she's better than her and whatever she try her man will never leave her for the other woman

  • people expected like a girl power/femenist song ig :wellr:

  • well that's weird because they never said the song was going to be a girl power/feminist song '-'

true. people didn't actually read the description of the song lol

i think their image and the name girls on top seems to imply like femenist/girl power vibes so ppl just ran with itl

  • true. people didn't actually read the description of the song lol

i think their image and the name girls on top seems to imply like femenist/girl power vibes so ppl just ran with itl

ok well i guess i didn't interpret the group name the same way everybody did

to me girls on top was more in the sens the spotlight will be on the women of SM

    more than empowering GG

  • It just sounds awkward coming from a group called ''Girls on Top''

well i guess i'm just used considering all the female artist we have in western pop music

who always act like they want to empower women etc... when they do an interview or make tweets

and always talk about girl using the term " bitch" in their song

also I've noticed that in recent times people have become ultra sensitive to pick me girls lol

    what's pick me girls ?

  • While i personally dont care. Its not a big deal.

they way thestep back lyrics puts down the other woman,( even if they were flirting with their man) was a little off putting.

It had an air of "you are below us as a human being". you are trash(implied whore).

While i have no love for whores, its does not fit the empowering women vibe people were hoping for.

If you break down Blackpink how you like that lyrics, eve thought it says "look at me , now look at you" Which gives the same vibe as step back, its done much more in a subtle way and lyrics more focused on empowering yourself. Step back just about trampling someone lol.

The lyrics for step back could of been better with sticking to the same theme.

  • someone said "Girls On Top is an empowerment anthem. When 60,000 Korean women demonstrated for their rights, with no hidden cameras, they used GOT! ITNW was used for an LGBTQ rally! SM is degrading the message behind that song."

    and i was like :pepeshut:

  • Part of the backlash is expecting girl power and getting.... that

Then Ryan Jhun being the writer, first this kind of pov coming from a man is making it more cringey/cliché and more importantly that guy had to apologize for calling ggs (which is most of who he writes for) something alike "pvssy idols".

That in the middle of misogyny cases that have been the talk in SK, it's causing some noise.

So no the lyrics aren't that controversial, but the context over it overblowns the thing

  • they way thestep back lyrics puts down the other woman,( even if they were flirting with their man) was a little off putting.

While i have no love for whores, its does not fit the empowering women vibe people were hoping for

well i don't understand why considering that the song doesn't adress to all the women if it was the case i would agree with you

but it's adressed to a certain type of women

and a song can still empower women by adressing to certain women and not all women, no ?

i'm not a girl so i don't know, but personnally i find that there's still a "empowering" message behind it

because i know a lot of girls had to face this type of situation and had to watch quietly on the side girls flirting with their men without standing up by fear of being categorize as an overly jealous girls, or a crazy girls who imagine something who isn't true or people telling them that if they think this is because they lack of confidence in themselves

so i find that the song is still empowering some women by telling them that if it's happening to them they shouldn't be afraid to confront the girl and stand up for what they want, no ?

  • It's basically girls that glorify themselves by degrading other women

it's not the ''stay away from my man'' message that grinds people's gears as much as it is the ''you're trash compared to me'' kind of lyrics

i guess i'm not trigger by this

but isn't this the same thing everywhere

women in wrestling also do this during their promo

women in music when they have beef are always talking about how they are better than the other one

women in sport in interview are always talking how they are one of the best of the industry so they aren't afraid of their opponent

    etc...

  • :pepe-tea:

Despite that, i get what you are saying. No one has any sympathy for the girl trying to take your man. but out of all the topics lyrics they could of had, why do with something attacking another woman. Thats what the people complaining are focused on. as someone else said in the thread, i think people expected a female empowering song, for all women. And and instead its a song putting a woman down (even if it deserving).

  • Aside from maybe wrestling,I don't think those are good comparisons.

Real life beef is..well,real life beef, regardless of gender.

When people in sports say that they're the best, they mean they're the most skillful in their field, not that their opponents are trash people.

As people often say, social media amplified everyone's moral compass because of the reach it has,and since we live in a world where misogyny is unfortunately still very much present, seeing it wrapped it nice easy-to-swallow pop song pills is not happily received.
