I was honestly shocked to see Wanna One above EXO since I didn't know it was from 2018 to nowadays.

Gaon has only had a digital index since 2018 . . . so EXO's digital peak 2013-2017 wasn't counted at all. Since 2018 Exo has released 27 songs and Wanna One has released 22. But 15 of EXO's 27 songs were enlistment era EXO and 3 of them were in Chinese which obviously get no streams at all in Korea. So it's not that surprising. Not to mention Wanna One were rivaling BTS in domestic popularity in 2018.

Thank you for the explanation, now that you gave me some new info it makes sense but at first, I was honestly shocked because I thought it counted their whole career.

Insane numbers for Wanna One. Imagine how massive they would’ve been had they lasted more. No wonder Mnet is still milking them to this day and they’re now trying to create a permanent “Produce” boy group with BP.
