well, in regards to hwa sa, her solo didn't come out at the best time... might've been better as a summer release.

think it's pretty reliant on luck sometimes

The music is not music-ing sadly.

I agree. Everyone knows about Seung Gi's success as an MC and showman. But other than that, the dramas he starred in are also successful. Although the songs he publishes are generally ballads, they are sometimes hits, and if not, they generally receive positive reactions. His popularity is still very high because he works in many fields.

Chungha - I didn't even know she had comeback, until I saw your thread. just checked her song - 'killing me', I think it's a nice song, not so catchy tho or memorable and I think wrong timing, Koreans listen to some type of songs season by season seriously lol and it might not be their cup of tea now
Jessi - I think you mean 'cold-blooded' . but it didn't really flop, but it's not a hit either, just a casual release, but the release itself is not so much gp friendly
Hwasa - I think it's a good song, personally I liked it, the MV is nice and all but wrong timing imo
Sunmi - she did decently this year, better than many soloists
Kai - oh my boy, he is not really a gp artist, so I understand not charting well. but otherwise he is doing amazing
Lee hi - she also did decently, not that amazing compared to previous
IU & Heize & Somi & Taeyeon did really amazing this year, compared to others
but did IU ever flop tho?

Fandoms are besotted, so will swallow anything their favorites produce.
GP goes by whatever they feel is evocative, they are not enslaved to idols and retain their freedom of taste. They are loyal to their own tastes in music, not some emotional dependency.
Soloists typically don't have large fandoms, so their success will fluctuate with the GP.
-- Could be one explanation, the other side to the faithful fandom narrative.
