this might seem harsh on aespa

  • what bothers me the most about there lackluster lipsynch award stage that lacks absolutely anything new or interesting to offer is their ignorance about it! they acted as if there was huge surprises when they spoiled the stage

or when they constantly hyped it up n bubble

every my was excited only to see the same expressionless stage and old recorded audio the same that they used for music shows and award show and events.

the macy parade was excusable because of the environment but all the award shows is not. sm is shit but most of the blame is on the performer not performing imho

i was so close becoming my but not anymore. sm and aespa will chase away most fans worse than red velvet because of this neglect so don't act surprised when you see it once they lose their top gg title next year

    Approved the thread.
  • I mean it is kinda harsh. I know it seems like I'm coddling them when I say this, but I feel like they just need more experience. I am willing to stick with them through this weird period. However I wish SM would realize their vocal strength and start letting them sing live, they would blow everyone away

  • Even the new nugu ggs have much better stage presence. People are excusing with they are just rookies but look at I'VE.

  • Giselle always looks like she'd rather be anywhere else but on stage

  • Should have posted on main. It’s a good discussion thread

  • Aespa are terrible performers. No amount of stage decoration will cover it up. I think the girls themselves don't like performing. There is no effort from their side.

  • You know how people used to call sm idols robots? That’s Aespa. No flair, no facial expression, no fun. Even basic stuff like closing eyes when reaching a high note like Taeyeon does is more emotive than Aespa.

  • afaik Winter is saying that it's SM that told them to keep this dead-panned expression

honestly SM needs to drop SMCU ep2

from there we can know is this part of their storyline concept or SM being stupid again

  • Aespa stans blaming the set design but no design would make them good performers

  • I'm a fan but I kinda agree, their performance was a little disappointing

  • Should have posted this on main even though it is harsh. It's not like MYs can say you're lying or anything we've all seen their stages. Aespa's stage presence is close to non-existent, and you can't really blame it on them being rookies or debuting during COVID when IVE debuted last week and are already more impressive to watch on stage. Maybe SM thinks looking robotic and expressionless on stage will help sell the AE concept? Either way it certainly does not do them any favors. MYs need to stop blaming SM as well - most groups don't need fancy camera work or props to sell a performance. And it's not the choreographer's fault every time Karina embarrasses herself during a solo performance. Have y'all seen some of the choreos Kiel Tutin has delivered during his reign of kpop gg terror? Karina's choreos are nowhere near as bad - she's just a very weak main dancer (I can think of idols with no dance positions that are better than her) and lacks the stage presence to disguise her technical flaws. I think Winter is actually the strongest dancer in the group.

  • I wonder if SM is not simply being too careful or wanting them to be too perfect.

Like, why autotune Winter on Knowing Bros when she's more than capable of performing without it? It's unnecessary and off-putting.

Most groups use it of course but many are at least somewhat subtle about it.

  • those songs and the choreography just aren't good for stage presence. give them a different concept and we'll see.

you guys still think too much.

  • i saw the stage they wanted to come off as cool and untouchable but came off as boring and expressionless. whoever is their performance director needs a new direction.

  • I was really shocked while watching aespa's perfomance yesterday. They get so much hype and they're so popular and since I don't stan, I haven't watched other perfomances. I was curious about theirs because of all the hype but it was so underwhelming.. Even the boring 4thgen collaboration stage was much better.

No stage presence, no good face expressions, their moves looked awkward.. I thought it's a choreography fault too somehow but when I watched covers of the song I realized it's really not about the dance, it's aespa who can't perform it well.

Domestic popularity will only get them so far if they don't improve. Hybengg and ygngg are coming. If aespa doesn't do anything about that problem they will easily be surpassed because people will always switch to the better and more interesting performers
