It tends to be something that is catchy, has a hook and easy to follow

Baby One More Time , Good Girl Bad Girl for example are not cheerful or bright but they're catchy

Btw all those Really Really Top Big Hit based on Korean Data and Metrics songs are pretty cool to me :) (except for one, that i'm not mentioning, but it kept me from looking into kpop sooner haha)

That's ok my friend for the greater good we must hold the line and persist even if others attack us...
