I noticed that some people in this forum tend to use their faves and the fact they stan them as a shield against being called out for xenophobia and racism against Koreans specifically and Asians in general. And that's like saying "but I have a black friend!"
Congratulations but you can still be racist against Asians even if you stan a kpop group.
To limit this to the context of kpop, I see some people use their hatred toward kpop (aside from their faves) as if it were a personality trait or a badge of honour and it's seriously disgusting. What do all of kpop have in common? Being Korean, that's it. Otherwise, there's a huge selection of genres and styles, there is hiphop, ballads, EDM, RnB, bubblegum pop, jazz, rock and musical influences from allover the world, including traditional Korean music elements, all this music has in common is its being sang in Korean. there are many genuinely talented idols and many that are not particularly talented, there are many that contribute to the production of their music and many that don't, there are underground rappers, classically trained singers, ballet dancers, graduates from acting schools, bands that play their own music and idols that were street-cast because of their visuals or bought their way in. All these people have in common is being Korean (aside from the few non Korean ones). YOU DON'T HAVE TO like these people, acknowledge them or even check them out, you really don't have to. But the moment you lump all of them together and denounce them as bad and inferior, aside from your faves, then that's your racism speaking. Unless you have literally checked every single kpop group and act, you have no right to make sweeping degrading remarks about them and try to pass if off as criticism and not racism (because you stan a given kpop group or artist) because like I said the only thing they have in common is being Korean, that's racism not criticism.
