RIGHT? It gives me shivers how she wrote that basically a decade before and IT’S STILL TRUE.
Taylor can add “fortune teller” to her career list

so true,
the tea in all taylor's album
Idg her and fans. I don't follow her, but i heard bits and pieces accidentally. Didn't she involved with John Mayer too, and from her fans or news he also has that reputation like jake. Look she can date whoever she wants. It's just unfair that she can do this and fans act like its an expose, when there are suppose to be 2 sides from a story. I like some of her songs, and it's unfair that she was called many things by media, from what I recall, snake and etc for supposedly dating a lot?
But like, a song is just a song, it doesn't mean it was 100% true or that she's a victim all the time and fans thinking it's okay to attack her ex. (but then pardon me if my pov was wrong, cause idrc googling about her or her lovers to get it right. This is only my 2 cents after reading what's in my tl)
She really did that

let me discuss what's wrong about this:
when you're a celebrity and you go public with your relationships, you open yourself up to criticism. she faced a lot of that. she never claimed she was the victim but she does have the right to sing about her experiences. also it is jake's decision whether he wants to defend himself or not, and he knows he's in the wrong which is why he hasn't said anything at all. we could have his side but he doesn't want to share it because once again, he know's he's in the wrong.
she re-recorded this for the fans and for herself. not some sick revenge exposé. she is known for her lyricism which means there is no reason to lie. she had her music bought out from under her feet and in that circumstance, she IS the victim and DOES have the right to re-record her music.
she did not "attack her ex". she created and directed a music video that was based off of her experience and released the version of the song that fans have been waiting for since 2012.
please fact check before spreading and sharing takes like this. especially passive aggressively saying "her or her lovers"... because no one would say that if she was a man. she dated a normal amount for a woman in her 20s yet she still is the object of criticism due to her success. she's been dating the same man, Joe Alwyn, for almost 6 years now. once again, fact check.
also john mayer preyed upon her when she was 19. do not get me started.
I mean if we're gonna talk about it, though,
I don't think this ten minute version is what Taylor originally had in mind back in, what was it, 2012?
And there's nothing wrong with that.
I personally think that only a few of the additions actually improve the song and the rest is unnecessary. Prefer the original cut by far.
What I find interesting is that there's a tonal change from being mostly wistful to kind of bitter. Which totally sours the vibe of the song for me and, yes, does seem strange so many years after the fact.
I'm not saying that she doesn't have a right to write bitter songs or anything like that. Dear John is one of my favourite songs of hers. But All Too Well was more nuanced and, uh, balanced? in its original form. Bittersweet, if anything, right?

i disagree with the rest but you're right in this aspect. many Swifties have been sharing similar sentiments since the release date because the original lyrics included in her Lover Album Journals were NOT included in this version (sadly). it's still a stunning release IMO but yeah.

Do you mind posting some examples of those lyrics?
I find this whole thing kind of fascinating, really.
I mean I know why Taylor Swift re-recorded these songs. And I think there's an additional motive of celebrating this work and especially the non-album tracks that fell by the wayside.
But there's this perhaps unintentional dimension of time and distance creeping into it. And I find that really interesting.
Taylor was quite young when she made this music and has grown so much since. Like it must be strange to revisit a lot of this stuff in the first instance. Let alone to try and get into the headspace. To channel, for example, the heartbreak of some of these songs now that she's in a long-term, stable relationship. Or even just, like, the irrepressible excitability of 22.
You listen to the songs and there's like, these small changes made to the arrangements, and I wonder if she was ever tempted to make bigger ones. I'm glad she didn't, but so many artists just can't resist that temptation. I think she's a bit bolder the vault tracks? Girl At Home sounds significantly different for example.
But All Too Well and its metamorphosis really brings up the time/distance question to me.
I feel like there's two ways to write about life events.
And one is to be in the moment and raw.
The other is to write about it from a detached perspective. Distanced by time.
A lot of my favourite music has that latter approach.
To quote one of my faves,
"Things mean a lot at the time, don't mean nothing later."
And so the expectation would be that over time hurt and resentments fade. And All Too Well in its ORIGINAL form takes that tone. So it's really interesting that the new version goes the other way. You could almost read it as a re-examination of a time in your life and realising you've been wronged deeper than you thought. Or been misled or gaslit or made a fool of.
But at the SAME time, I can't imagine being someone who would care that much a decade after the fact.
BUT at the same time my perception of Taylor is that she has an incredibly difficult time letting anything go, which, for sure, fuels her artistry but also perhaps causes her some friction emotionally.
But whatevs.

original lyrics as per the Lover journals:
"There we are again, you're crying on the phone. Realized you lost the one real thing you've ever known."
"I walked through the door with you, the air was cold. Pictures on the fireplace, you're showing me around"
"There we are again when you blew the candle out. Took this blazing love, steered it right into the ground"
"You'll mail back my things in a box with no note. Except for that scarf, from the very first week. Yeah, you keep it in your drawer cause it smells like me"
The short film had me so emotional. Taylor swift is an amazing story teller and I’ve had the 10 minute version of atw on repeat the past few days.
Also Dylan o brien was my childhood crush never in my life did I think I could hate a character he played but it actually happened Taylor actually got me to dislike him lol he acted phenomenally alongside the girl
