Straykids are NOT 4th gen!

  • I don't understand who came to the conscious decision to label them as 4th gen but they aren't.

4th gen started in 2019 and most Koreans have said this.

When I see y'all labeling groups like Straykids, G-IDLE and The Boyz as 4th gen I can't help but laugh, I know they don't have enough achievements to stand out compared to 3rd gen but why lie?

K-media only names groups like TXT, ITZY and STAYC as 4th gen.

    Approved the thread.
  • well, if you ask me. groups like that debut in an awkward period so its hard to be definite about where they belong.

as for saying they didn't achieve enough, you're clearly not paying enough attention and throwing your unrealistic standards at them. all three of those groups are successful, or at least getting to that road.

speaking of success, why has that become the only way to keep a group from getting shitted on? why can't people just accept them if they have good music.

just because they haven't yet been acknowledged by the industry and/or public doesn't make them any less talented or not worth recognition. (OP i was not directing this part at you, it was a general question)

  • I think if you had a song, even pre release, in 2017 which is over 4 years old than that's a hard push to call them 4th generation. Even Iz One, who are supposed to be 4th gen yet disbanded before 4th generation even took off properly is hilarious to me. Not even close to 4th generation.

Hellavator came out 2 months after Wanna One energetic and The Boyz Boy just 3 months. Even Itzy are a hard push for me, considering for the vast majority of this new generation JYP will have a new girl group and a new boy group debuting.

This is a lie and if you ever looked outside your bubble you'd know it

I know they don't have enough achievements to stand out compared to 3rd gen but why lie?

you realise they're outselling, and internationally outstreaming most 3rd gen bgs save for a few?

  • Korean media keeps saying they're 4th gen and only other 4th gen stans get pressed about this, so :wellr:

  • Comparing SKZ to TXT, Itzy makes more sense since SKZ is only one year older, while SVT, NCT is 2-3 years older than SKZ, so it makes SKZ as 4th gen

  • Agree that 4th gen started 2019.

Fun thing is that the majority of Kpop fans didn't start labeling 2018 as 4th gen until after the year was already over. During 2018 most people were saying that it was still 3rd gen.

Then fans wanted their faves to be considered new groups and their main competition (TXT, Izy, 2020 groups etc.) were considered 4th gen so people started calling 2018 as 4th gen as well. (then at some point late 2017 was included...)

  • 4th gen started in 2018, whether you like it or not.

That's what kmedia and Koreans say too.

Stray Kids mark the beginning of a new era. They're nothing like most 3rd gen groups. Not in age, not in music, not in their fandom demographics.

Also, don't people base these generations on big company groups? Are Stray Kids big3 only when they achieve something?

And what if Hellevator came out two months after Energetic?? Two generations can exist at the same time, they can slightly overlap.

  • Stray Kids started the 4th Gen and The Boyz is a 4th Gen group simply because they were nominated for the same award shows as SKZ.

Stray Kids debuted right at the start of the generation. It's the same with EXO starting the 3rd Generation. They're the transition groups.

  • Y'all need to accept that there isn't a clear line when comes to these so called gens starting. It's a guideline, not a law. How many times to people say EXO started 3rd gen, but then also include groups like BtoB and Block B who debuted in 2011?

While you're saying 4th gen started in 2019 and others are saying 2018, there are someone now saying it should be 2020 because COVID impacted the way groups debut.

  • 2017 is obviously still 3rd gen, no one would say wanna one is 4th gen. but 2018 is the ambiguous one, but i'll just say that they're 4th gen

  • You can think whatever you want. Go to any korean article about Stray Kids and you will see they being label as a 4th generation group or "next generation" group. Even Hanteo, as mentioned above, and Mnet called on National TV mentioned them as a fourth generation group. Hell, I will say something random, but even iKON's Bobby out of nowhere mentioned them as a new generation's group to look up to on Kingdom. The japanese programs that announce their performances call their a new generation's group. And these are only some situations of many I remember now.

The only ones thinking different are some K-pop stans like you. But It's fine, because such opinions won't change relevant sources.
