If CJ ENM will buy SM then next 'Produce' group will be managed by SM

    Ain't that amazing thought?

  • I think overall that’s gonna be better, tbh. Only bc of 1 thing:

    Vocal Coaching.

no but look with SM on the board they could do Produce style survival show with SM trainees + Woollim trainees (I think company is still under SM Culture) + trainees from all CJ ENM subsidiaries, they can add independent trainees from auditions to not make this all seem 'set from the start' and then after final all girls which made it to the group can sign contracts with SM :) this way they don't need to 'split' money to other agencies, everything they will make stays in home...

that would be smart and will probably bring tons of people to watch it because after all it's SM...

Woollim is still under SM. Mystic Story is also under SM so their trainees could be hypothetically be included as well. FNC while not under SM has a very good relationship with them and they collaborate a lot so even they could be included in this fictional show idea

Possible since CJ ENM owns Mnet and Tving. But I am not sure if SM would join a survival show. Maybe under the new management, the artists might join those show.

  • CJ ENM has like 8 labels under it already so why would they change anything? :pepepizza:

MNet already did things like NCT World

so filming survival show type instead of variety show wouldn't be a problem

overall I think that in recent years relationship between SM and MNet looked more than ok

so if CJ ENM would acquire all Lee Sooman shares then they will probably become biggest shareholder, so they will have most to say...

because under "others" there are many, many people/companies which have probably 1-2% of shares or even less, so CJ could even buy shares from those people as well.

Actually even though wikipedia can trick you because it's not updated: SM doesn't have anything more to do with Woollim since like 2017. Different case is Mystic Story which is indeed a SM subsidiary. There is even a video where the Woollim CEO is asked about why did they separate from SM but I don't remember the title or the channel.

Woollim reiterated this year that they are in fact under SM still. It was wikipedia that misled people in the first place. I think? I don't really know because sources are super mixed on it. I can find a definitive answer. I remember an article this year talking about it hence why Wikipedia changed it back again

  • It's an interesting thought but I don't know why SM would dilute their brand by including their trainees on Mnet survival shows.

They can just create shows for their own trainees.

I know that a couple NCT members have been on solo survival shows for high schoolers but there was no expectation to win.

I sort of like these survival shows because they have a lot of talent that the Big 3 (or 4 now) missed or discarded. That type of elitism does need to be challenged on a regular basis.

Really? I doubt so, not only SM doesn't mention Woollim at all on their conferences or reports but the last reference I have about their relationship is this one:

  • Isn’t it rumored that if the acquisition happens SM will be in charge of CJ’s music division? I’m sure the next one is gonna be boys so I wouldn’t be mad if they got some EXO rejects if I’m being honest. In fact they should plagiarize Kokobop and make it their debut title track :pepe-toilet:

  • Meh I don't think that will happen. Also I'm pretty sure CJ's sub-labels would want to manage Produce groups more than SM. I think SM making their own 'Produce' with their own trainees will be more successful than getting trainees from other companies. The group can be permanent too if they want to. Imagine a group that has Big 3 (or 4?) power plus Produce power.
