Pre-ordering is basically like blind dating. People pre-order because they want those benefits and most things are cheaper during preorder.
It also helps charting and gives album sales a stable support too.

Yeah but WHAT IF?
The world will end in a complete apocalypse. People will turn to the walking dead from lack of preorder albums. The world will turn to turmoil and there will be fire and destruction in every inch of the earth.
EVERYONE WILL EVENTUALLY DIE SOONER THAN HUMANKIND EVER THOUGHT.
-less sales overall
- albums go out of stock since companies wouldnt know how in demand album is to print
- fans frustration because of how difficult it would be to get one especially international fans

It's completely amazing, right?

Yes. It's perfect
stock shortage would be 10x worse
If you don't mind,
What have you collected?
exo, bts, any girl group at this point
this is really interesting. i can see some hardcore fans/stans possible scenarios:
- website or stores could crash on day 1, depending on demand. it would really suck for if there are no adequate stocks.
Brave brother owns a fledgling music website/online shop. They decided to sell the leftover stock of Rollin' albums through the website. About 20 minutes before the announced sell time (it was like 10 or 11 in the morning), the website went down due to people hammering the site. They tried restarting the server multiple times but couldn't get it back on. They rescheduled the launch to late afternoon, using the extra time to lay in new servers and bandwidth. In the afternoon, the server goes down again. They manage to turn the shop on almost an hour after the rescheduled time, but the lag was so bad even on the server side matching the inventory to actual sales so the shop software ended up selling more than the inventory and the shop had to call people individually to cancel their orders. There were people avoiding answering calls the next day.
Now imagine BTS selling album like this. Not just chaos it will be armageddon.
