There is no such thing as "working hard" in kpop

  • You either have IT or you don't.

People either like your personality and visuals (the real sellers of music) or they don't.

Working on singing and dancing for 20 hours a day changes nothing.

Kpop fans need to stop using this as an explanation for their faves success.

  • I know you're phrasing it this way to be combative, but it is annoying af when people say "well, my faves work hard" as if no one else does.

And there are some celebrities that are at the point now that, even if they didn't work hard, it wouldn't matter. Some of them at least have the self-awareness of that, like GD&TOP on Zutter.

Yeah because senior idols "earned it". I came here thinking OP would say something among these lines "everyone works hard" but no, he just wants to bash and cry about looks

  • You know, I am getting bitter in my old age but you are too much.

You should petition your point to any BIG3 company and ask for them to throw a beautiful but untaleted idol onto their next group... Just watch people will eat that person alive for their lack of "hard work"

It's nobody business you didn't receive love because of your looks

That person might catch some heat for slacking but it still won't effect the overall popularity of a group.

I have a perfect example I could give but out of respect for this person I'm not going to mention it. If you want to know then pm me.

  • i find it strange when fans say 'aww poor babies you already promoted twice this year take a rest'

Like? They're earning thousands or millions to dance and sing.

Like most of the world work full time jobs with ome holiday yearly lol

Good point. Regular people work harder in a month than idols work in a year. Most for minimum wage.

Just mention it, everyone can have a different opinion. I want to see the 2 sides come from that opinion

Yes. I don't know the estimation of total Korean idols that exist, but I think there are also many that didn't earn enough. The one that is popular will be always the one that earns more than enough.

I do agree that us commoners work just as hard and for even less (provide that X group is making any cash at all) but wr aren't forced to not eat, walk outside or have dozen of cameras flashing at us causing panick attacks at all times. Let's not talk about the malicious clothing choices.

But yeah, if you wanna be sucessfull at any job you better be among the best (or be the son of the company's onwer)

Sulli is my favorite idol of all time. She actually worked really hard as a trainee. Theres even footage of her crying and having break downs cause she wanted to be as good as the others. She was an actress first so singing and dancing wasn't her specialty. But she got better.

But as the years went on you could clearly see she began to loose her passion and drive for music which lead her to not give it her all a lot of the time. She caught a lot of heat for this online for lazy performances. So yes even being the beautiful Sulli of f(x) wasn't enough to protect her from criticism.

But it didn't matter cause f(x) actually got LESS popular after she left the group. 4 Walls did very good but it was their least selling album in 4 years.

Sulli is my favorite idol not because she was the best singer and dancer ever but because she was the perfect idol. Idol meaning 10/10 Mark's in visuals, personality, likeability, style, and ideal type.

  • Yes. It's really sad seeing her lose her passion, but we don't actually know what caused that happened.

  • Independently of what you think of a group's popularity, quality etc I don't think anyone can say they don't work hard.

I'm a freelancer so I can work little to 15 hours in a day, or 20 days straight for 8 hours each.

So I know how hard it can be to have schedules with recording things, training, filming, interviewing, practicing etc.

Not like your typical 9 to 5 job with weekends off.

I wonder how it must feel when all that effort goes to waste and you can't debut...

  • Well... I agree to a certain point. First of all, looks are definitely the main thing in the the entertainment industry. Let's not pretend that at least half of artist of all areas aren't there because of their looks and connections. And yes, most of the time working hard has little to do with how famous someone is.

Even in kpop, popularity is not synonymous with hard work. Especially because there a lot of similarities between groups. So of course the ones that can afford a better marketing campaign and distribution will inevitably rise to the top.

That said, I do think kpop idols put in more work than most. Of course there are exceptions, but in general Korea appears to have a very strong "work hard" mentality and they value that a lot. So a lazy attitude would not be so accepted as here in the west, where mediocrity seems to rule and be praised.
