Yea, we get it. A western artist could drink, do drugs, have orgies, etc. but nothing will happen to their careers. But kpop idols are even several tiers below a Disney artist in terms of what their IMAGE entails to their careers and profit-potential. An idol is a meticulously crafted illusion, where the idol is just a part. Behind him or her is a team of handlers that micro-manage a lot of little details to construct their image, from looks, styling, personality, reputation; they create a virtual person. And it is this illusion that thousands or millions of young fans fall in love with, and who will provide the company huge profits because of it.
You may not care when the illusion breaks, but it so happens that there's many in East Asia (and even some in the west) that are deeply affected by it. Nobody would give a fuck except that it hurts the business, and nothing is more important than the bottom line.
This is why these multi-millionaire grown ass men are fumbling and bumbling about a simple question even a kindergartener can answer in a second: "do you have a girlfriend?" Because it's about the fucking money they get from their illusion.
