Akmu literally released their best song with a Korean legend, 2021 is good for that alone.

There's more amazing songs this year but this one is probably going to be in my top ten whenever I finish 2012's list.

They’re not even a year old yet

They're a musical group under an independent Korean label(other examples include SM, JYP, yes YG is an independent label currently), in the business definition of "indie" Red Velevt is an "indie" group. In the musical definitions of "indie" they're music is as poppy as any other idol group. They sing pop songs in Korean thus they are a kpop group.
