Poll - Would you be in favor of a rule against discussing fandoms/other users in the kpop section?

  • Should there be a rule against discussing fandoms/users in the kpop section 29

    1. Yes (12) 41%
    2. No (13) 45%
    3. Other - Discuss in comments (4) 14%

I brought this up in another thread, but then wanted to add a poll. Apparently, I can't do that, so here we go.

Would you be in favor of a rule disallowed talking about fandoms/users in the kpop section. So, that would mean you could only talk about the groups themselves and their music.

Ex: group A's comeback was great/boring

    Allowed

Ex: I think A is the best singer

    Allowed

    Ex: Haters are pressed

    Not allowed

Ex: Some people here complain too much

    Not allowed

Would people feel more welcome? Would there be more users and activity? Would it be boring?

    Here's the original post

  • I think it depends on the type of threads. Achievement, appreciation, serious discussion about groups/idols (scandals, health etc) shouldnt have other groups brought up because it's obviously not about them. Otherwise for other general type of discussions I think it's ok.

Though I think the haters are pressed type threads are a grey area because depending on the initial post it could be a response thread to another fandom/group or clearly being shady towards others. These types are obviously starting or continuing beef with others.

  • As long as people don't target individual users and make personal insults/follow them to other parts of the forum to harass them about other things, it should be fine. We shouldn't limit too much what people can say or else we'll start losing users, and objectively, a little bit of chaos is good for a forum as far as traffic and engagement :pepe-grooving:

  • No, it’s alright to discuss other fandoms as long as people respect that not everyone has to like that fandom - they are entitled to. That’s how shit fights start and I’ve blocked many people because of it. It’s a bit sad when one is denied an opinion. There’s lots of drama Queens here imo.

Changed the title of the thread from “Would you be in favor of a rule against discussing fandoms/other users in the kpop section?” to “Poll - Would you be in favor of a rule against discussing fandoms/other users in the kpop section?”.
  • "Shitting on" idols shouldn't be allowed either and that wouldn't be an issue in a well-moderated forum. Mods should be taking care of the true bashing posts and trolls. It's posters taking it upon themselves to call people out over any perceived insult and then those posters themselves getting retaliated on that causes fan wars. Report problematic posts and hold mods responsible for fair and unbiased actions.

Of course, a lot depends on what someone considers "shitting on" an idol. I don't agree with your gif that only nice things should be said. People should be able to have both positive and negative opinions on music and groups. Idols are selling a product and putting their talents in the public sphere. Fellow fans and users are not. There's a difference. Of course, attacks on anyone should not be allowed, but you should be able to say that you think a song is bad or that you think someone did their job badly without getting attacked or piled on by bullies.

I don't think "haters are pressed" threads are gray at all. I think that's throwing shade on a group of users on it's face. Those threads are always targeted towards a thinly veiled fandom.

I feel like forum toxicity has lost us a lot of users already. Also, I think that users are already limited as to what they can say, because so many are afraid of getting bashed and bullied, especially if they have opinions about any group with a large fandom here.

  • yeah if you want the kpop section to die completely lmfao

This forum is already dead. Maybe people would talk more if they didn't fear getting attacked. The forum I was on before thrived with that rule. It was way bigger and more active than this forum. However, it was full of people that liked to have in-depth discussions and analyze things and share opinions, so maybe that's the difference.

I feel like the drama queens are the ones that want to talk about other users instead of the music. Maybe if they aren't allowed to do that, they'll move on and we could have actual discussions instead.

  • Honestly, I think that stuff like discussing fandoms/other users in the K-pop section is fine as long as it's meaningful and doesn't end up being detrimental to a huge majority of the AKP community (I'm talking about stuff like thread derailments and quarreling in threads to the point that they get locked)...

What would be a meaningful discussion about another user?

  • No because it'll kill traffic/activity tbh. Yeah it sucks seeing fanwars when it comes to your own favs but you can always block them and allow those who want to argue, argue.

Fanwars are just part of K-Pop and will be there for any platform tbh. I just report anyone that starts bashing individual users.

  • What would be a meaningful discussion about another user?

Here's what I'd consider a meaningful discussion about someone else: one that doesn't involve violating the rules against harassing others/doxxing others/canceling others/calling others out through inflammatory remarks, and aims to be constructive and intelligent.

  • I mean it would be cool if this forum could be a place where we can discuss about kpop properly but apparently not all users here have that intention. Otherwise this forum would have been more peaceful.
