As a lot of 3rd Gen groups are approaching the end of their contract, this was something I was wondering.

What do you think is necessary for a group to last for a long time ?

First and foremost it has to be the members desire to be together, then the label/company support (assuming they stay in the same company or if they move to another, some company has to want them there unless they can make their own label/company).
Even groups with dwindling fanbases stay together, so its not just about fanbase IMO.

That's what I came to say, it depends on members' will to stay together first and foremost then stable fanbase

I think it's fair. It's not even about members hating each others. If they don't have the same vision for their career, they will naturally part ways.

Happened to my faves
Like for Sistar they went separately because they had different visions of what they want after 7 years together, but they are still great friends. They even had an Instagram live reunion not long ago to celebrate their debut anniversary

I don't mean in the sense of focusing most of the time on the group and ignoring solo activities, but having solo activities but still having time for the group

It depends on first the members desire to stay as a group, secondly the company still prioritising them and giving them all the opportunities and resources. Thirdly a loyal and understanding fanbase.

Besides success and fandom, I think one of the most important is the understanding between all the members in a group. If I'm not wrong, Shibhwa still has all of their OG until today in this year is their 23rd years old as a group. Of course, their fandom might become decline but it still a huge achievement as they managed to last long till today.

Twice is already a pretty 'old' group by kpop standard, and with so many members too ! Whatever they did, it definitely worked.
Still, I wonder if they will all renew their contract ?
