Why does SM buy already recorded songs and then give them to their groups?

Is it only SM that does it?

Probably because song writers send their work to multiple places.

  • Because there good songs and usually the original is unheard of or only a demo.

I’m pretty sure 99% of people never listen to the fast and furious soundtrack before Next Level by Aespa was announced.

I like them re-using/repurposing songs becaude if it’s a banger, no reason to let it go to waste. Plus it’s probably cheaper to use, since it’s already being released (which means more profits for company/artist)

  • I heard that Ko Ko Bop was suppose to be a Red Velvet song. I would like to hear that. The writer put up the original demo a while back

In this case the song was probably available to be purchased from the start.

  • Remakes are good generally like f(x)'s Hot Summer or SNSD Run Devil Run generally if anything SM improves on the song production-wise. I think they do remakes because using an already known song creates buzz around it like when this forum freaked over Next Level being remade by SM for example.
