Why does SM buy already recorded songs and then give them to their groups?

It's not just SM. I believe More & More by TWICE was a Zara Larsson demo too. That's the first example I can think of, but I'm sure there's plenty more.

I’m pretty sure 99% of people never listen to the fast and furious soundtrack before Next Level by Aespa was announced.

I like them re-using/repurposing songs becaude if it’s a banger, no reason to let it go to waste. Plus it’s probably cheaper to use, since it’s already being released (which means more profits for company/artist)

As expected from SM. ....

The writers distribute songs to where they can expect more profit obviously.. and you will be surprised to know not only SM but a large part of the industry actually does that..

As long as they can transform the song into something amazing then its all good..

there are a whole lot of songs SM inhouse producers and writers make for the groups too, you should check more music out

It's only a few song from a million song they release, and it's not illegal

What if these people are willing to sell their ideas? Don't they have the right to sell their own work? Or their work isn't worth money?

I heard that Ko Ko Bop was suppose to be a Red Velvet song. I would like to hear that. The writer put up the original demo a while back

In this case the song was probably available to be purchased from the start.

Remakes are good generally like f(x)'s Hot Summer or SNSD Run Devil Run generally if anything SM improves on the song production-wise. I think they do remakes because using an already known song creates buzz around it like when this forum freaked over Next Level being remade by SM for example.
