I have to have Eng subs for BTROC, the Cantonese is too hard for me in that series
I rather have less episodes than filler episodes!!

So many dramas are a pain to finish because of this. I usually get so bored during the ending episodes, they add so many unecessary things like misunderstandings and break ups.

did your family normally speak cantonese at home?

Nope, we speak Hokkien. I picked up Cantonese purely from watching TVB dramas

Yeah, but the various dialects (Hokkien/Cantonese/Teochew etc) probably will faded with the younger generation

The misunderstanding parts often make feel so frustrated cause it often makes no sense and the characters behave out of character, just so they have a plot that wasn’t needed for the sake of filling space. Or they will give the second lead a shoot just for him/her get hurt for no reason.

that's to be expected in each generation as they gravitate towards English...

Fewer episodes means it will be a boring drama. Because they usually don't do much in series with few episodes. It should be around 12-16 episodes at least. Because in general, Netflix series are 8 episodes and do not satisfy me. It's even better if I start long multi-episode series, because they usually process more plots and characters. I love the characters in some of the long season dramas and it's more fun to watch because these characters evolve.

Yeah it's better to tell the story as sufficiently as you can. Prolonging for the sake of prolonging it is a terrible experience.
Though, if you are going to add filler, I think there are good kinds of filler verses bad kinds of filler. Good filler can give you insight into a main character or another part of the story. ATLA comes to mind. Like, for example, the tales of ba sing se are filler, but they give us glimpses into important characters and we learn more about them. That's good.
Bad filler would be like DBZ filler where they add a bunch of extra episodes to drag out a fight scene or some shit. That shits tiresome.
