Different eras so can't really compare 1 to 1.

But SNSD was certainly the biggest kpop group in the world in their time and doing for that time was unheard of for a kpop group. Appearing on few American shows, a French show, being the main headline at SM towns/joint concerts (articles mostly taking about them and their pics used the most), the YouTube push and so on.
