    It's also impossible for a boygroup who isn't from Johnny's Entertainent to gain a lot popularity in Japan. There are a ton of groups for sure and even artists like for example JO1 or GENERATIONS are doing very well but you simply can't beat a artist from Johnny's

    Since they are on hiatus now and Snow Man sold over 4,5 million with just 3 singles after debuting in 2020 I would say it's them now. Snow Man is also under Johnny's Entertainment (and co-signed with Avex). Their debut single sold over 1,7 million times

    For girlgroups it was a long time AKB48. They even used to be more popular than SNSD at some point in the past. But due to having so many sister groups who cover their songs and the fact that so many girlgroups exist they slowly lost their fame over the years.

    I'm not quit sure who comes after AKB48 but the 46-groups are quit popular in Japan as for example Hinatazaka46

    If you may wonder where NiziU is at, well they only have that big following cause they are under a Korean label. If they had debuted as who they are under a Japanese company than they would probably have less fans and less sales/views
