2nd Gen with the rise and dominance of SNSD as centerpiece to the era's culmination was the Golden Age of kpop girl groups in my opinion.
It was a time when kpop was international enough that fans abroad could participate, but still focused on Asia and with a zeitgeist truly and definitely centered on Korea proper, which gave it a differentiation and certain cultural charm largely lost in kpop's proliferation abroad in this new area.
2nd gen was the perfect storm.

I totally agree. 4th Gen GG is whare it's at right now. The only 3rd gen groups making great music consistently are BP and Twice, and of course Day6 but Day6 is obviously playing in a different field.
But 4th Gen GG's making bop after bop (Itzy, Everglow, StayC, Idle, Loona and potentially Aespa) they are really killing it.
