They went to KCON in 2014. KCON has only started in US since 2012 thanks to demand made by 2nd gen kop groups. 2012, 2013's KCON wasn't that big it was just the start. But 2014's KCON was massive. It has broadcasted in so many tv channels in so many European countries. Lots of articles has made in US publications. Since then KCON has started to be hosted in countries besides US. BTS has grabbed that opportunity and the rest is their hardwork, good strategy and dedicated fanbase!
BigHit Entertainment's western success happened organically

So your example is 2 RM solo endeavors that did nothing to further BTS's the group brand in the US. M not even gonna touch on kcon as a thing to expand in the us market when kpop was the biggest niche at the time .
This is what actually bang pd said back in 2016 :
https://onehallyu.com/topic/421936-...p-singer-advancing-to-the-us-is-overreaching/
"BTS has their strength as KPOP artist and I believe they reached where they're today by maximizing this point so we plan to continue focusing on their growth as KPOP artist. We'd be grateful when BTS is able to enter the US mainstream chart if the attention they receive now doesn't end here but I think it's overreaching for us to officially prepare for overseas expansion."There is nothing wrong about recongnizing and wantibg to he big in the US except it's not factualky true to say bh did steps to make that come to fruition before billboard.
Only in 2017 when US army started screaming for bh to pay attention then the focus actually shifted.
I’m just saying that it seems they always had interest to enter the US market, your quote now proves that too, that’s why AH and the little collabs, it was to taste waters and to learn more about the market, which is smart to do as a company who starts to build their connections. Of course BH will wait until there is enough demand to put a whole promotion campaign into works. It all cost money.

Sure it wasn’t what got them the popularity, but they definitely had interest entering the market and did probably prepared for it a little. Well at the end BTS was able to gain popularity there for various other reasons.
It wasn’t a collab to get the big breakthrough for sure, but it was definitely a little push in the right direction. I think most collabs are something the Artists dreamed of. Tbh I think many western fans don’t know much about BTS before 2017. I was actually following them for a while till 2017.
Gotcha. I absolutely agree and understand your perspective now.

Changed the title of the thread from “BigHit Entertainment's western success happened organically without even trying” to “BigHit Entertainment's western success happened organically”. -

I had several ones. I just looked back in my Spotify's "Liked Songs":
"Spring Day"
"Silver Spoon" / "Baepsae"
"Lost"
"Dope"
I was really drawn to their hip-hop sound and rap line, as that was what I looked for in K-pop songs at the time. I got into BigBang in 2013 because they had a strong hip-hop influence, so it all makes sense. I used to strictly stan BigBang when it came to K-pop, so I didn't really pay much attention after the MADE album. The ultimate song that got me back into this genre after taking a break for a while, though, was "REALLY REALLY" by Winner.

Bang PD has said they did not have a any plans for western market. They tried Chinese market in 2014 and they were pushing Japanese market much more until they did anything in US in late 2017. They still prioritize Japanese market.
They toured in US, because thats where their fans were.
They didnt get any US promotions before they ranked top 10 on BB200. Their success didnt have anything to do with BH connections, all their opportunities were created by their fanbase. Fanbase showed there was demand and campaigned for physicals, fans campaigned for radio, fans sold out concerts to the point prices at resellers were crazy, so they got more dates and bigger venues. Fans showed up at award shows and events, showing demand, after BTS got nominated or won based on pure numbers.
Organic.

I said interest. Also as someone who studies business there is actually not such thing as organic growth within an industry. It was all fun as a Kpop fan using it but it’s actually complete nonsense.

Because I say the truth? Only Kpop fans talk about this. Something like this the way it’s been used doesn’t exist. There is something like organic growth, but it’s something completely different. I used it for my faves too, but it’s actually just Kpop talk it is what it is
