Not really, autotune could be used as a stylistic choice. It only gets toxic when someone claims to be able to sing like that and sounds very off. There are several level of autotune and it is still a normal plug in for audio editing and mixing.

But this doesn’t mean that autotune cannot be used as a stylistic choice. The roots of autotune are when it was used as a stylistic choice (Cher, Daft Punk and so on). I respect your opinion but it is wrong to say autotune is only there to make the vocals better or out of this world. Also a lot of people forget that good vocal processing and mixing makes a difference and that most of the autotune in songs cannot be heard unless you use very good headphones or extract the instrumentals. Autotune isn‘t that magic tool that makes everyone sing. A lot of times it is used to make songs more pleasant to listen to over headphones or that the vocals do not sound to detached to edm music

Exactly, a lot of autotune haters think that you only press a button and suddenly a tone deaf person sings like Ariana Grande. Autotune is most of the times used to adjust the vocals to the instrumentals since the quality of headphones are getting better and better and you hear things a lot easier than 20 years ago
