Again, this is a rumor but knowing how bsh tries to push for the japanese market, my hypothesis is that he probably didn't want danielle because he probably wanted a japanese trainee in the lineup. again, all conjecture but logically speaking, when making a girl group, you want to diversify the target audience.
The thinking from BSH's perspective or kpop entertainment companies in general, is there was a potential overlap between Hanni & Danielle, with both of them being australian and speaking english. Having a native japanese would have "diversified" the fanbase. This is not a requirement for success in japan of course but something I've noticed from HYBE based on how the le sserafim & illit members were chosen.
NewJeans OT5 however was the perfect lineup. Danielle imo was also the most visually appealing to me and embodies New Jeans to a tee so I am very disappointed and sad she was kicked out
