Questions about recent scandals

  • After a long break from k-pop community I would've hoped to see some of the fandoms finally maturing. Instead:

    - Loud DaEun&Jimin scandal that left me absolutely flabbergasted how delusional and misogynistic some k-pop fans actually still are.

    - TaeHyung collaborating with Coca Cola which results in his fans suddenly jumping to give their money to that company. I mean, it's just funding further children slaughter, no big deal.

    - Hybe internal documents scandal. No words. Just...

    - Suga caught driving while drunk. Happens to everyone, but the way some fans would defend it-

    - NCT Member Taeil's Sexual Crime Allegations. I start to think whether there are at all respectful, kind men in K-pop industry at this point.

    - Kim Soo-hyun and his company driving his ex girlfriend to suicide

These are examples that appeared on my fyp the most. I mean, damn... turns out k-pop has it's own share of dark secrets, huh? So I'm checking the social media, feeling quite assured because there's no way someone would try to justify such behaviour in big 2025, right? Yeah, turns out I'm either naive or people are losing their damned minds. In all these situations I've noticed a certain pattern - Female fans defending their faves by blaming literally everyone for something THEIR faves had done. Their ADULT faves who - for whatever damned reason - are still being treated like little boys who have to be protected by these crazy boy-moms like women. And of course it's mostly these women blaming another women for their idols' actions.

    Jimin&Daeun scandal? It's all on her, she's a psycho!

Hybe vs New Jeans? It's all the fault of these attention seekers, our precious Hybe would never!

KSH literally driving his ex girlfriend to suicide? It's all her fault, oppa didn't do anything wrong!

I mean... are we all for real right now? I can't be the only one thinking how insane that is, right? I remember this forum being more on the chill side, so let me just ask you - what do you think about these scandals? ARMYs I'm mostly talking to you since the scandals I heard about are often about BTS members and their fans on sm shocked me the most. Please, don't treat this as an attack as I'm not trying to lump you all together, I'm aware there are normal fans as well and that's why I'm asking here - what do you, normal fans think about the scandals mentioned above and also about this pattern of female fans always defending their idols, often while blaming other women fror everything?

  • ?

I don't understand why that part confuses you? But hey, let me elaborate. Often k-pop fans have this false image of korean idols being either flawless or just genuinely kind and good. Some scandals, like the ones with Taeil, The Burning Sun, Lucas, Kris Wu, KSH burst that bubble and give us a glimpse of how dark this industry actually is. However many fans still refuse to believe that k-pop industry is by no means transparent and what we see in public isn't necessarily how idols are in private too.

  • but that's not unique in kpop right?

there are bad apples in every fandom, hobby, sport etc etc

I've always said it's the silent majority that gets drowned out by the vocal minority

"good" fans enjoy their favs in peace and quite - the bad ones often make the most noise algorithmically!!!

a good fan posting how much they like and appreciate one's fav isn't going to get much traction...go make an AKP post "trashing" one of the top groups and it'll get 5 to 10 pages easily!!!

  • K-pop can blame this situation on themselves. The focus on idol-fan parasocial relationships is so severe that it’s hard to give Kpop Idol credibility on anything else.

And I’m not just talking about those fandoms, but all fandoms in general
