What's the current boy group popularity ranking?

  • Post-Super, SVT has gone back to how they used to chart, which was 3-4 months. Thunder and God of Music certainly followed that trend, though Love Money Fame didn't do nearly as well.

I don't disagree Seventeen declined in comparison to their digital performance in 2023, but there's still a whole abyss between their current performance and going to TWS' current level.

'Plot Twist' is literally the only song keeping TWS afloat. Their lastest comeback, 'Countdown', peaked at 72 on Melon Daily and 56 on Circle Digital Chart — even below Plot Twist after more than one year of charting. What proves this song didn't really translate into stable success to them.

Seventeen declined, but Thunder was still #1 on Melon Top 100, peaked #18 on Melon Daily and debuted at #1 on Circle Digital, what proves their fandom is still going strong.

Right now Seventeen is still on Melon Daily Top 100, while Countdown is nearly leaving Top 200, even though, their comeback was relatively close to each other (around one month).

  • If we remove BTS due to inactivity right now, I'd argue for ATEEZ instead of NCT Dream on Top 5

I don't fully agree. I guess Ateez is more organic, but NCT numbers are bigger. Chiller is doing quite well on Spotify (for NCT standards). 46 million streams already, and ~600k daily

    Their last releases:

    When I'm With You: 117M

    Smoothie: 112M

    Chiller: 48M (July release)

    Ateez:

    Work: 91M

    Ice on My Teeth: 67M

    In Your Fantasy: 25M

    Lemon Drop: 25M (June release)

We may argue NCT Dream streams are fandom-driven (they are, they have only half of Ateez monthly listeners, and once a new title track comes out the older ones just start colapsing), but fandom driven or not they are still higher than Ateez's

  • For me the biggest problem is not their Spotify numbers being fandom-driven. Fandom-driven for Fandom-driven, both ATEEZ and NCT Dream are.

The problem here is that most of NCT Dream's spotify numbers are severely carried by some SEA countries — If the methods are suspicious or not, It's up in the air...

Regardless, It's like saying Arijit Singh is a big international artist, because he's currently charting at #11 on Spotify Top Global Artists, when in reality he's a phenomenon in a specific country and It's numbers alone carries him globally.

NCT Dream has both US and European physical distribution, but chart much worse than ATEEZ is most of the biggest markets in the world. And It's not only reflected on their album-charting, but also when we compare both's touring numbers across the globe.

  • NCT Dream numbers are asian-centered, with them charting multiple songs on SEA markets every comeback (or almost every comeback), while Ateez numbers are scattered (which is why they barely chart at all)

You can afirm Ateez is more "global" in a sense they, while nugu tier, at least have a small audience worldwide. But cumulative NCT numbers are simply more solid because they are slightly popular in markets where kpop is relevant (i.e. Japan, China and SEA)

To give additional insight, on Youtube the top cities for NCT Dream are 6 cities from South Korea, one from Japan and the rest are on SEA

For Ateez you will see Ney York, Paris, and few LATAM cities

  • I'm excluding Korea here, since the rankings are being divided in Korea / International, so I'm assuming we are taking in consideration only the other markets for the second ranking.

Well, I don't disagree NCT Dream are more successful in specific regions — Japan, China, SEA — and It makes the numbers bigger (being It Spotify Streams or Physical Sales), but I think the reason we are disagreeing here is because you consider someone bigger internationally seeing the total numbers alone and I take in consideration from where this number is coming from or how It's being spaced out to consider an act more internationally successful than the other.

For me, ATEEZ having a niche audience in multiple countries, even If there isn't one outstading makes them indeed more Global than NCT Dream given how they numbers are divided.

ATEEZ has a tour they got over $73 million in revenue from 33 shows due to this audience they have and I don't see Dream coming close despite touring in Asia + North American + Latam + Europe how they already did.
