An idea for kpop companies: debut a group with only chubby members.

  • No, that won't happen.

You really think labels would select those body types as idols?

Korea's music industry have been narrow-minded and mentally ingrained about idols being thin for so many years, they won't suddenly change and care about being progressive.

Even past and current THIN idols received/receive heavy criticism and hatred for gaining or losing some weight by fans.

So, hypothetically, what makes you think fans will appreciate this new group??

They would be ravaged online so much, it would destroy their psyche as well.

  • nah, hard pass. that group’s gonna flop. ppl will only talk abt them for some hit posts on social medias, but kpop fans won’t actually support them. it’s just like Black Swan or those idols rigged out of Produce, everyone talks abt them out of 'sympathy' or to shade other groups but when it comes to streaming or buying albums, they vanish. and let’s be real, they’d get bullied a lot for their body type and it's the only thing knetz and lowkey everyone else will talk about every time the group appears anywhere.

Totally true here. Everyone screamed for years about how Izone was a rigged group and that Chowon deserved better but they did NOTHING to support Chowon's literal debut. Lightsum flopped completely.

  • Japan already does that and it's been done in SK with Piggy Dolls whom if I remember correctly started to lose weight once they were in the spotlight.

Weight doesn't dictate your talent in Singing, Composition or Rapping but it will affect your stamina for high intensity choreo which many Idols do frequently.

TWICE's Jeongyeon has put on weight since debut and you can see it's affected her dancing because her movements aren't as light as she previously was but the other members are still as fluent.

YGE's Big Mama were also big women but as a Vocal Group that didn't dance as much, it is fine.

And the reality that Idols present a fake image of healthy bodies means you have an Industry where EJAE or Rumi from Kpop Demon Hunter couldn't debut for SM because of her age was consider too old when Irene could for RV that was a few months older. Just shows what the Korean Idol System really shows, Visuals are the standard.
