It's Sad

  • They are more entertaining and definitely have that special sauce but their fandom are also loyal. For example BTS haven't made a comeback for 3 years but their fans are still there listening to their music and supporting the group.

BTS fans are an anomaly in KPOP because the majority of their fans honestly do not give a single fuck about kpop if it isnt BTS

  • I love the 3d gen. I just can't get into most of the newer groups. I don't want to speak down on them, it feels bad to do so. But it's undeniable that they can't reach the international market the same way as their seniors even though they are profiting from the platforms their seniors opened up for them. Even with Nj it felt like they were more Korean audience favourit than internationally liked. I think Katseye's model could work (I know, they are not kpop exactly.)

On another note. What I missed in 3rd gen are the interactions between genders. I felt like they had to be really reserved with that. For one example it was great to see on Suga's show that he introduced not only his male friends, but female friends too. I wish kpop fans were mature enough for the idols to be able to interact more. They need friends and relationships too to be healthy adults or at least be mentally stable. With their lifestyles having friends is no easy feet. They don't have much time to invest, they have to be careful with what they say and what kind of personal data they share and they are all around zhe world working day and night. I think idol x idol friendships are important for their well being as they can understood each other better.

  • I think it's combination of many factors that make it hard for newier groups to take a top spot. Like the old top groups BP and Twice still being active and taking a big share of the spotlight, harder competion from domestic groups in other SE contries and as other have said a bit more generic groups, even if I would said that is not a totally new problem. Maybe kpop also is a bit less "cool" these days, it's nothing new anymore.

For each year I have fewer and fewer groups I can feel is a favorite, during 2nd generation I could have a bounch of groups that I felt speciall intrest in, they are all more or less gone now, 3rd generation...some few groups. Last couple of years....? very few groups at all I can feel any speciall intrest in or can name any members in the group. And when I do it's often is short lived because they raraly follow up with multiple good songs.

Don't know why that is the case, probably a combination of me getting a bit less excited with kpop these days and overall a bit more boring songs/groups.

  • Stan the underrated groups. I’m never bored.

The idea that women only like male idols for their looks is complete nonsense. I’m just not interested in spending every waking moment streaming nonstop. The real strength of boy group fans lies in the amount of money we invest, not just our streaming numbers. Yes, we might find idols attractive, but that doesn’t mean we’re not genuinely enjoying and supporting their music. Let’s be honest: most BG fans simply aren’t great at streaming.

Also, with 5th Gen debuting more and more minors, I’m really not interested in what feels like K-Pop Kids Bop. Lately, I’ve found myself drifting more toward J-Pop. I still enjoy many K-Pop groups, but both my heart and my wallet are now fully invested in J-Pop.

See this would make sense if the 2nd gen weren't also active well into the third gen. Still groups like EXO and RV hit hard at launch and then went on to dominate against their famous seniors. There isnt a single 4th gen or 5th gen group I can see being bigger than Twice much less BP and BTS

  • 3rd gen groups didn't become this big overnight. Not even BTS or Blackpink. Both of them needed at least 3 or 4 years or even more to have 1B streams.

These new gen groups are in their 4th year or not even 3 years old, and i-dle is a much smaller agency group.

Also, the most important thing. 3rd gen was never this crowded like 4th and 5th gen, and Kpop had the biggest peak in 3rd gen. Now, it's decreasing again, because it's nothing new anymore.

People felt, Kpop is a new food they never tried, but now it's just the same old food. I'll give them 10 years and Kpop will be big again when they will have new fans who don't know anything about 3rd or even 4th gen groups. Just like 4th gen fans don't know anything about 1st or 2nd gen.

  • I dunno I don't find it sad at all

it's just the preferences of the consumer I guess

if you want to overcome the establishment then do it by I dunno doing something different or having a better product etc etc and obviously for spotify streaming stats the newer groups haven't been able to overcome that barrier
