maybe in the past???
but currently the Korea GP is a very fickle creature - what is GP friendly doesn't seem to be GP friendly anymore
It really depends. There are plenty of groups with discographies I personally find amazing, no skips, but they don’t get the recognition they deserve, either because the general public sleeps on them or their sound isn't mainstream-friendly. For example, ASC2NT came back with what I thought was a super strong, high-quality track, but it didn't really take off. ATEEZ is another example, their music is more intense and performance-driven rather than "easy-listening," and while they’re huge internationally, they struggle for domestic GP attention. So success isn’t always tied to having a smaller or simpler discography, sometimes the style or timing just doesn’t align with public taste.
smaller discography has nothing to do with it imo. but maybe spaced out comebacks does. blackpink was able to build up more hype for each of their cbs mostly because they were very rare
easy listening songs yes, but not every group that releases easy listening music is automatically successful. a lot of nugus have tried to follow the newjeans/illit model f.e and didn't reach the same success. depends heavily on the company + promo investment
