"- Why should I be afraid of getting criticized?
    - Did I say anything wrong?
    - If you don't agree, then don't come to Fromm and try to control me"

    original post: here

    1. If you're gonna bullsh*t like that, then don't become a k-pop idol

    2. What is this?

    3. And she's saying this on a fan communication appㅋㅋ

    4. Not surprised

    5. Why would she act like that on a communication app that fans paid for?

    6. Why is she acting like that today?? No one's even sh*tting on her so what's wrong with her?

    7. Why's she acting like that in someone else's country?

    8. Wow, I used to find her likeable.......

    9. They have a Taiwanese and Vietnamese member in her team too

    10. Can we stop debuting Chinese and Japanese kids?

  • She screwed up badly because Nien is from Taiwan... Sometimes xinyu says stuff and then they made her delete it. Cuz she was complaining about something but it was valid. This isn't valid because she probably offended some ppl. And some knetz do not think highly of her now. So much for tripleS being a unproblematic group.

  • damn Xinyu

girl you could just said one country, two systems

ehhh... sometimes phrasing is the key

    and also

  • I don't like that xenophobic comment about stop debuting Chinese and Japanese idols

I think if there's anything a company should train an idol for it should be this. It's safer just to say "no comment" when talking about a subject as sensitive as this. Unsure what this does to her career because no clue how big tripleS is in Korea, but this could put her in hot water. If this gains any traction it would kill future brand deals in Korea for her. I wonder if this would have any impact on the group.

This is why I feel it's selfish as an idol to go against the grain like this because you're hurting others pockets. Of course there's certain topics an idol should be outspoken about, but I don't think this one of them.

  • Even if it's "true", the fact of the matter is that there are plenty of people in these places (Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau) that do NOT want to be a part of China! Many want their independence from China and that's why this is a sensitive topic. It's politics and people are going to feel a certain way, especially if they want their people to have independence from China.

So even though she's stating a fact, because China is in control of these places, the WAY she said it implies that that is the way it should be. That China DOES have a right to these places, when many parts of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau believe that China does NOT.

Shame we, the UK, handed it over the THAT China, despite the potential risk of a war in HK over handing to the ROC :-( Even then, we didn't have to hand over ALL of it, just not Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, due the lease being for the rest of it (thought I'd give a slight history lesson ;-) )

  • I mean, everyone recognizes Taiwan as part of Mainland China.

    Uhh... No, speak for yourself.

This is just objectively false. How do I, as a foreigner, know more about the Chinese Civil War and Hong Kong & Macau's respective colonial histories than a Chinese kid? Do they not teach their own history over there?

  • I disagree with Xinyu.

I have heard that there can be a lot of pressure on Chinese idols to say this, and silence can be taken to mean you support the opposite stance (meaning they are stuck between a rock and a hard place). I don’t know if Xinyu was under pressure to say this.

What makes this all so weird there wasn't any pressure for her to post this. This was posted on her fromm, and I believe it's one of the paid messaging apps. Easily could've just ignored it, but she went out of her way to say that.

I do agree that it's very tough for Chinese idols because they have to be on their toes not to upset people in Korea and people back home. There are ways to navigate the market like I can't remember Yuqi getting into much trouble for patriotism. However, you have to be very careful like I remember Ningning getting in trouble for cheering for China during the Olympics.
