  • I think it's a shame that BTS always get used for political promotions. Since 2017 their stance has been supporting the status quo and being used as a promotional tool for South Korea's soft power. To think this is the same group that made Spring Day and Am I Wrong. Their fans behave as if it's a great honor though so I suppose it works.

They mean well. I don't think that there was anything wrong with UN speech. But i hated when they met with Biden. Why are they meeting with any country's president is beyond me. They shouldn't meet with their own country's presidents either, only appear on occasions that cannot be used for political promotions. I remember when blinks were proud when bp met with macron and his wife. Why exactly are you happy?

Celebs needs to stay out of politics.

Obviously there are things I do not appreciate that the government does with regards to BTS but recognising and embedding them in a recap of south korea's history of important figures and moments is not one of those.

They aren't using them to ask people to vote for a specific party. They are making a recap of important moments in their history. That speech by RM is in books and that's on having impact and I'm proud of those boys.

Sorry if that makes you upset. :skull:

I think celebrities should either take a real stance or none at all.

I am saying BTS hasn't had any real stance (ever) but they became even more milquetoast and the extent of their messaging is a liberal love for all type that can be co-opted by everyone and anyone and that's why it's easy for their fans to project all sorts of personal politics onto them. This is why you have in your fandom radical left boycotters and religious conservatives who cry over your idols listening to Frank Ocean at the same time.

That's also why it's easy for political parties and government institutions to use them. It's not something upsetting. It's an observation.

The reason I am talking about this is because I see them used in things like election promotion etc. a lot of time.

  • I think celebrities should either take a real stance or none at all.

Agree. Talking about social problems is fine with me and i hope they really mean what they say. If you mean something be on the streets or wherever you need to be, don't just post on social media or attend events and and take pictures.

But publicly supporting politicians :S good thing that came out of previous USA elections is that we learned people don't care about what celebs say. They are out of touch people who live in their own world. They should keep their mouth shut and don't say anything political. don't let yourself being dragged in to politics and political promotions.

I definitely disagree that they never had a real stance. Their message is universal such as love and respect. Which is why they have fans of all nationalities, religious, sexualities etc etc. Everyone can find themselves in their songs. Which is also problematic in a sense that they can be used by all political parties. it seems that whatever you do you can't win.

It's not about winning. What I mean to say is that you can't say Thom Yorke fence sitting on Israel Palestine is a genuine political stance. (I mean you can say it is actually. It's apathy and centrism arising from privilege.)

  • -

They are people with a vote.

It's against freedom of speech to say people should keep their mouth shut.

I'm a random person on the internet who definitely doesn't have the power to order celebrities to speak up or shut up. They can do whatever they want. They should bear in mind that every word they say can be used in political promotions and that it might backfire.

Like i said above, talking about social issues, i have no problem with that. As for politics; i have yet to meet a person who voted for someone who their fave supported. It's 2025 anyway, nobody cares what celebrities think (good).

  • I am saying BTS hasn't had any real stance (eve

    This is false.

They haven't taken a public stance but they have taken one, believe it or not. It is not anyone else's right (apart from they, themselves) to know where they stand politically. Respect that.

I think its better this way, tbh. Imagine if celebrities came out as MAGA. And ik there's always those group of fans that are parasocial and could vote for their country's equivalent of Trump just because of that. Yeah, nty.

  • You can always count with a bitter non-fan to come and spill their salt.

The BTS members are just fulfilling their military service, THEY CAN NOT take a political stance without endangering their safety during their service.

They literally spend their service whilst all the power was in the hands of the government that tried to create a dictatorship...

They had no protection and almost no contact with the outside world, soldiers are supposed to be politically neutral or they are punished by a separate military judicial system... and this system allows soldiers to be judged by "wrongdoings" done before, during and after their service... do I need to explain how their safety can be compromised?

The way some people have no awareness of the real world is unnerving

  • What real world??? Were BTS in the military before 2022? What made them take a stance with Am I Wrong and then stop doing so after 2017 and rebrand themselves? What is stopping j-hope and Jin who are out of the military from taking the stance. This is what I mean by it's the BTS fans who try to push an image onto their idols when they are far from that.

Why does any criticism of BTS always have to arise from bitterness? Stans will literally kill you if you don't prostrate in front of their faves.
