Why is "Supernatural" by NewJeans so good?

the beat is insane! the vocals are smooth, beautiful and nostalgic .

the song, the production, the execution is excellent. also it's quite unique sounding nowdays in the pop scene since very few is no one is making jackswing (or whatever) typa songs. again cementing njs as dearing trendsetters.

also again, when i first listened to the song, i felt that something was kinda missing in the vocal delivery, like more intensity? well guess what, that restrained minimalistic gentle approache might be the secret of why so many njs songs have insane replay value and they kind of never get old...

like since the hook isn't that strong or in your face, it doesn’t get on your nerve or something in the long run.

and to add, their vocal delivery is subtle, but also it's full of emotions, nostalgia and authenticity. Very beautiful tones to. And THAT can get addictive and intemporal .

In my opinion, after the sacred trilogy (Hype Boy, Ditto & OMG) Supernatural is their best song. Can't wait to see them promoting it.

The song is a bit underwhelming on first listen, but it becomes addictive after multiple listens. The production for it is so good and it bring a retro sound you don't hear that often. I find the vocals and lyrics very good and I think the background vocals work well. I think production wise it's one of the best mixed songs. Also, the chorus doesn't seem that strong on first listen, but after multiple listens its addictive.

I think the reason why the song is a bit underwhelming on first listen is due to structure of the song is unorthodox . It doesn't follow the typical structure you hear in kpop, which throws some people off.

it's definitly not a typical kpop or even pop song. it strives for more artistic authenticity and sound individuality rather than solely a mainstream success and overwhelming catchiness pop songs are known for.

it's a pattern i find recurent in njs's music on various level. like they're trying to break the (k)pop wall and make more 'indie' or non pop type of music.

Hybe boy is for example their most kpopiest song, while Ditto the last. Yet it's intresting to see how much love and success this unconvential songs (for kpop standart) can get .

Supernatural to me is like a mix of Attention and Ditto with a jackswing approache . With its subtle and unconventioal chorus, a fresh energic beat and an emotional delivery filled with nostalgia.
