How would you feel if you were talking to someone, but they kept avoiding eye contact?

  • Well... I have a habit of sometimes avoiding eye contact.

Some days ago, I was talking to a guy, who I don't know that well. (I don't even know if we have even e before)

And I was avoiding eye contact with him.

I wonder what he might have been thinking, while we were talking.

I do also sometimes avoid eye contact with people that I do know well.

    Even my family.

And heck, sometimes when I watch a Seonghwa video, I might sometimes "avoid eye contact". (or at least that I look away from his face.)

I had one incident where I was at a meeting, and after that meeting, my mother was talking to this woman and she also kinda introduced me.

I avoid eye contact, and then my mother seriously forced into eye contact with that woman.

And I ended up feeling bad...

I don't know how I would feel if someone was avoiding eye contact with me.

  • It depends, tbh.

If I noticed that the person is avoiding eye contact because they seem shy/nervous etc., I wouldn't think anything bad of it. I would probably try to appear friendlier or smt, to give them confidence to open up and relax.

If they're avoiding eye contact because they get distracted by something or someone etc. and they do it continuously, I would think they are not interested in what I have to say and I would consider it a bit rude.

As a sidenote, I am the type of person who makes heavy eye contact with people while interacting with them.

  • I wouldn't take it personal especially if it's a necessary convo. As an empath, I'd start "tapping in" to why the person is avoiding it. Nervous? Autistic? Anxious? Something else occupying their thoughts at that moment?
