I guess social media is filled with judgmental people

  • Or at least, I have sometimes read comments to Facebook and Instagram posts.

Like people judging on people based on their hobbies, the books they like etc...

And I remember also seeing a post on Facebook, where someone posted a photo from a bookstore where there was a bookshelf called "TikTok Books" and reacting negatively to that. (Well, in my opinion, people can read whatever they want, also the stuff that are popular on TikTok)

And then some people being discriminating.

I have seen some homophobic, transphobic, racist, misogynist stuff...

There is someone on Instagram that I sometimes watch videos by.

I often witness her posts getting racist comments and some using ethnic slurs.

On Facebook it is kinda strange for me to see some people write discriminating stuff with their account with their real full name in it, and sometimes you can see where that person works.

Sometimes I expect people to "hide under a mask" whenever they write that kind of stuff.

Even though I know that people are often braver typing that kind of stuff online rather than saying that face to face with that person.

I guess it can be compared to when people talk trash about someone behind their back rather than saying it in front of them.

It might be better for me, if I sometimes don't read comments to some social media posts. Might also be a better idea to be less on social media.

Even though on Instagram, if I'm on my computer, hate comments are harder to ignore. Because of course, if I click on a picture, then I also see comments right away.

And yes, I do know that there are judgmental people offline too.

Like I have heard some family members say some judgmental stuff.

  • This, my friend, is exactly why I only follow artists. Maybe a couple of mutual people. And some friends. MY TL, my Instagram, even my Facebook, dead silent.

Not to mention I actually hate social media. I find paying for bots in our discord server much easier for updates, LOL. But I would rather just follow the artists and ignore the crap that comes with it. People are vile especially behind a screen. Everyone is some keyboard warrior.

I bet you half the things people say, they would never say to someone's face. And if they are that type of person I am sure they get their ass handed to them on several occasions.

  • Firstly you aren't alone thinking this, its a big reason I'm not on social media anymore and just sit in my tiny little bubble a lot of the time. I go through that to and I found if its to overwhelming taking a break is always okay.

I think social media can be an awesome thing but sometimes when we dig to much into something or are in the wrong community it can be more draining then anything else.

Regarding your thoughts on comments, I've stopped commenting purely on social media and reading them I feel a lot better about it now but it was tough. Kinda the same reason I take long breaks from weverse for the same reason. Some people are just toxic to be toxic, although it may seem everyone is negative and judgemental it really isn't all (even if its cringy to say that).

Videos like those by Cara Nicole about deinfluncing and limiting our social media use really helped me when I was going through this and she did it really well in terms of explaining, especially her FOMO video I'm currently watching.

There's nothing wrong with stepping away from something entirely, or blocking someone/ reporting someone if you think the comment goes to far. I'm really bad about that but since doing so I've been trying to improve.

Sorry you've heard some family members say some stuff and are dealing with this, whatever you choose to do or how you view things, I wish you well. :hug-raccoon:

  • It's just easier to say what you think on the Internet. Well, when people write something bad, it only means that there is something in their life that really doesn't suit them and upsets them. However, I cannot help but mention those people who see an insult and disrespect in everything - here, too, one must be more judicious.

To make the world a better place, you have to start with yourself. Peace
