Lim Youngwoong harming KPop concerts at the Soccer stadium by not setting up seats on the ground, essentially telling other acts not to do so.

Before the concert of Lim Youngwoong at the soccer stadium, which is basically the only remaining stadium in Seoul now since the main stadium won't be usable till late 2025 (officially, which in Korean lingo means mid-2026) , he set up devices to the lawn at there.

Last year, when the emergency Jamboree concert was held at there, Korean soccer fans complained that concerts harmed the lawns there.

Frankly speaking, who outside of Korea gives two cents about the Korean soccer league?

For many years I have written that Koreans have absolutely zero appreciation on KPop, and put their own interests before KPop.

Here is a Seventeen concert held at the same location.

They set up the stage in the middle of the field, and there are seats on the ground. They are using half of the stadium, as it is the standard in Korea.

But, 'to protect the lawn', Lim Youngwoong did NOT set up any seats on the ground.

It is said that he rode a balloon to show up, like this

    copying the Senior Singer,

and he performed above the plastic island at the middle.

It is said that he used the whole stadium, which led to a capacity of 49,000.

But that is possible because he is a ballad singer (he is nominally trot but his current songs are indistinguishable from ballad).

Basically, what he did is to tell IU, plus BTS and others who are going to perform at the soccer stadium,

NOT to set up any seats on the ground,

pay a lot of money to set up devices to protect the lawn (it is said that the devices are going to eat up at least 20% of the concert revenue - they are not cheap),

and drive away the fans away from the stage!

How dare does he do that?

It is said that he played soccer in his school days and is friends with some players in Korean soccer league.

Still, his 'respect' to Korean soccer fans basically undermines the very reason other Kpop acts might be having a concert in the stadium, essentially forcing them to 'protect the lawn'.

That is what happens if the city authorities let anyone with a pulse to perform.

I wonder what the Senior Singer will do. Some of her songs do have performances and she will probably set up a stage, putting those who are close to her near it.

And I wonder what BTS and others who might do concerts at there will deal with this.

Given the bitter experience KPop has against Koreans, I don't think KPop acts should respect the complaints of Korean soccer fans, who are inconsequential as far as the world is concerned.

If Lim Youngwoong's actions lead KPop acts and a nonKPop act to have a smaller concert with no seats on the ground, then that would be the greatest harm he would have caused to KPop.

  • LYW kind of lost his prime hype tbh I blame Kpop stans for it.

It's not like fans needs to always sit in the chair, they can stand or sit on the ground, more freedom to them. :thinkerpepe:

He lost his prime hype since like 2021 when the gp got sick of him, but his fandom is still as huge and devoted as ever. Idk how he'll ever lose that fandom because his niche is so unique. None of the other big artists are competing for who can get the most ahjummas. If he keeps singing ballads he'll be fine.

  • Stadiums are meant for sports initially so…

If Kpop and concerts overall are more important, they should build exclusive concert halls as big as stadiums.

The stadiums were built for the world cup in 2002, a long time ago

It is just selfish Koreans who are the problem.

  • Football is bigger than any event in some country. They got most fans than any korean singer can have. IDK whether you are football fans or not but the main purpose of stadium usually football and they prioritize it. Honestly speaking the grass is expensive and need great care to maintain. I think this good thinking from LYW side because SK team got match on June which why they protect the lawn.

And why the need to be bother about what global said about korean league like did the international people should care about what korean thinking.. I dont think it will a problem if the match is far away and organizer want full seat on the grass....

So? Yes stadiums are meant to sports, but organizers made a ton of money from the entertainment industry.

They also made ton of money from sport events.. Seoul stadium is home of SK football team and FC seoul.. If any kpop group want the priority, try to bid for home of their group then they can try get what they want to do..

In Europe where Football is actually huge, stadiums are used for concerts too. So I don’t know what makes SK so special. Some tools exist.

Building another stadium is a waste of space, money and is not environmentally friendly.

The different is technology and cost. The post also the cost of maintenance. Stadium in europe usually cover the grass or remove the grass if the stadium idle from football match.

Special stadium like real madrid can just replace the pitch.

This LYW concert is special case since the national team got match in June and want protect the grass. Usually no concert allowed if match soon happen

Not in Korea. Yes, it has some very dedicated fans like any country, but the majority would rather follow Koreans playing in bigger leagues like Son Heungmin. They do watch national teams, but the enthusiasm on the local league is somewhat like a minor fad.

Same thing few people in Central America pay attention to their own league, which are run somewhat like the minor league farms for the Major League Baseball.

Basically what LYW did is to try to keep other KPop acts, who do need the stage which he does not need since he does not dance during his concert, from using the floor and preventing a closer reaction with their most dedicated fans who do not shy away from paying the extra money to see their faves closer. It is said that he used the track to run around the field, something which is not possible for larger numbered acts who cannot all be running around like soccer players while dancing heavily.

  • So? Yes stadiums are meant to sports, but organizers made a ton of money from the entertainment industry.

The city of Seoul owns the stadium. In Korea it is not possible for companies to own stadiums unless they build them with their own money, since it is seen as a favoritism. So it has the authority to do whatever it feels like to that, whether the local soccer fans like it or not.

Building another stadium is a waste of space, money and is not environmentally friendly.

In Seoul it is impossible to find such plot of land since that is so expensive. Which is why they are remodeling the old Olympic Stadium rather than find a new one. The current Soccer Stadium was built over a garbage heap, since it was the last available big piece of land in Seoul.

And Seventeed did have a concert in the Nissan Stadium in Yokohama, which was used as the venue for the 2002 World cup finals.

So it is just Korean soccer fans who are acting funny.

  • This is a national star whose status is higher than any K-pop group. In Korea he has even higher status than BTS

And completely irrelevant outside of Korea, although, to his credit, he did a concert in USA (mostly to older Korean-Americans, but) before a certain 1,345 years old.

He is basically telling KPop acts not to have a concert on the floor in a soccer stadium, which completely undermines the purposes of having a stadium concert.

LYW doing that just because National team got match on June 11.. It only possible now because he protect the grass. It so close to match and will not be ready for their international match.. The equipment for concert will on grass at least for 2 days and this will damage the grass which will take at least a month to grow back.

Do you think the world class player will risk their play and not care of bad pitch. Do you think SK will risk their World Cup qualifier for some singer that want to use their stadium??

You should understand why LYW or any other artist should be doing that at this time. It not like SK never agree concert at this stadium. Should wait to see how the stage layout of IU concert that will happen at this same stadium...

  • Didnt you mentioned seventeen concert at the seoul stadium in the first post.. It happened on April and you comment like this, which act like seventeen never doing concert at seoul stadium

And you should know that Japan national team will use different stadium for the World cup qualifier unlike SK that will use same stadium of LYW concert..

    China

a country not well known for its soccer.

I don't follow Chinese soccer but I don't think there will be too many names from there which would be familiar to fans outside of there.

I can think about a dozen singers whose concert would be more significant than a match with China.

The Korean soccer fans can think that soccer and grass are more important than KPop, but the truth is nobody outside Korea really pays too much attention to Korean soccer.

LYW set a very bad example for other singers who would like to hold concerts in the only remaining large venue of Seoul.
