3rd gen vs 4th gen girlgroups

3rd gen probably! I love 4th gen groups (ESP BILLLIE) butttt there is more variety in 3rd gen

I don't think any generation can compete against the 2016-2019 girl group run, only twice and blackpink dropped almost 20 mega hits between themselves, and most are at the top of girl group history. For 4th gen you mostly have 2022 as a golden year, with just a little of 2021 and 2023 and thats it... we are almost half of 2024 and the panorama for 4th gen releases is so mid is crazy.

With Twice and Blackpink it's not really any hard quastion . And as I have said before, talks about "generations" are pointless. But if you force me, I guess NewJeans is one of the first 4th generations groups so we don't have that many groups yet.....

No clue about the boys, but from the girls' side: catchy/earworm melodies left the chat during the pandemic, when girl crush overtook everything else. It used to coexist with the synthpop style of, say, IZ*ONE, but then everyone did girl crush because that's what international audiences wanted. Then, in 2022, when people predictably got bored of girl crush, we got repackaged 90s r&b/UK garage that still doesn't have remarkable melodies other than Super Shy
